Tuesday Racing Tips: No Surprise to see back-to-back wins

There are four meetings set to take place in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday. We have Flat action on the all-weather from Southwell as well as jumps racing from Leicester, Newbury and Down Royal.

Among our fancies from both sides of the Irish Sea is a last time out winner, who looks well treated under a penalty bidding for back-to-back wins, as well as a nice prospect in a novice chase at Down Royal.

Tuesday Racing Tips

  • 14:55 Down Royal - Bleu D'enfer @ 11/2
  • 16:30 Southwell - Andaleep @ 11/2
  • 18:00 Southwell - Surprise Picture @ 11/2

14:55 Down Royal - Bleu D'enfer @ 11/2

It was a highly promising performance from Bleu D’enfer when he was last seen over fences in a novice chase at Punchestown two starts ago and he arrives on the back of a career best Flat run when he was narrowly beaten over hurdles at this venue on St Stephen’s Day.

He’s completely unexposed over the larger obstacles, this being just his third start over fences, so we can expect a big jolt of improvement from the six-year-old and, while he doesn’t currently have any fancy entries, he looks like a very bright prospect for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede.

Having not jumped well on his chase debut, he showed a good ability to learn when jumping much better at Punchestown and, while others here have achieved a little more, he has more potential than some.

16:30 Southwell - Andaleep @ 11/2

The opener that kicks off the all-weather card at Southwell on Tuesday looks competitive on form, but one that has come a long way down in the weights since his most recent win at York is Andaleep.

He was rated a stone higher on turf as recently as August and he’s not been running badly to say he's been dropped 14lb in the weights.

The son of Siyouni wasn’t beaten far when last seen at Kempton earlier this month and he was only narrowly beaten on all-weather earlier on this winter when runner-up in November.

The key to his chance is the booking of Simon Walker, who is the top amateur Flat rider on these shores. He’s often worth his weight in gold in these races and he’s much more experienced than most of his weighing room colleagues in amateur contests.

This will be the gelding’s first start at Southwell, but he’s run some fair races in defeat on various Tapeta services around the country and he’s drawn well here in stall five, a factor that is always a bonus at the Midlands track.

18:00 Southwell - Surprise Picture @ 11/2

It was a really pleasing performance by Surprise Picture when taking out a Class 5 Handicap at Wolverhampton last week and if he’s in the same form, he could be hard to beat with just a 5lb penalty to carry.

The assessor is likely to put him up more than the 5lb he carries here meaning he’s well in at the weights and he’s still relatively well treated on his form from just over 12 months ago.

His most likely danger is another last time out winner, Counsel, but that rival doesn’t win often and there’s the potential for him to bounce after that big effort at Lingfield when returning from a lengthy lay-off.
