Lingfield Park Tips: Ferret in bid for back-to-back wins

Three meetings are set to take place on a quieter-than-usual Thursday, with two all-weather cards on the Flat from Lingfield and Newcastle plus a Jumps card from Hereford.
We have a trio of selections from the meeting at Lingfield - including a recent course winner that can go in again.
12:15 - Penny Be @ 22/1
A good apprentice rider can be worth their weight in gold in apprentice only races and one of the more promising jockeys in division two of the apprentice classified stakes on the card is Luke Catton, who has a nice looking ride on Penny Be.
The filly got off the mark on the Polytrack at Chelmsford in September and she bounced back from some lesser efforts when third of 10 over this course and distance last month. She conceded first run to the winner that day and stayed on well in eye-catching fashion.
With a better draw in stall three this time and Catton taking over in the saddle claiming a valuable 3lb, she looks capable of going well in a race in which not many of her rivals arrive in reasonable form.
12:45 - The Ferret @ 9/1
A change to more prominent tactics seemed to really help The Ferret when winning over the mile at Lingfield last time out, having shown little when held up in two previous outings.
Those previous runs in the summer were also prior to a gelding procedure which was another potential source of improvement for the Richard Hannon runner ahead of his recent success.
He won over the mile last time out but showed plenty of early speed, suggesting this drop back to seven furlongs won’t be an issue, and he has an ideal draw in stall one for a repeat of the tactics he showed last time.
He probably needs to improve a little to defy an opening mark of 75 but this is just his fourth career outing and there’s a decent chance he will come on for his recent return from five months off.
It’s a tight handicap with just 6lb separating the field but the selection has plenty of upside and should probably be favourite for this contest.
13:45 - Maysan @ 11/4
Maysan was a winner back in France in June and she’s posted some promising efforts without managing to get her head in front since joining Ian Williams’ yard.
The step up to a mile for the first time could be the key to her having shaped like she needs a bit further at times this season and there’s stamina on both the sire and dam’s side of her pedigree.
The sharp nature of Lingfield’s all-weather track may help her get home over this new trip and she won on testing ground over seven furlongs on the continent.
She’s now down to a workable mark of 70 having been dropped 2lb for her latest third at Wolverhampton and, with the yard in solid form in recent weeks, she might be worth chancing at her odds.
