After the fun and frolics of the festive racing feast, things take a marked pull on Tuesday as there are just three UK meetings on the schedule post-New Year's Day.

There are afternoon jumps meetings from Fakenham and Ayr, while evening fare on the all-weather is from Dunstall Park at Wolverhampton.

We've picked out a trio to follow, including the returning Lady Tremaine for Donald McCain in what looks a good spot for her at Fakenham.

Tuesday Racing Tips

  • 13:15 Ayr - Follow Charlie @ 6/1
  • 13:30 Fakenham - Lady Tremaine @ 13/2
  • 19:30 Wolverhampton - Rogue Rosie @ 5/2

13:15 Ayr - Follow Charlie @ 6/1

Last-time-scorers Clovis Boy and Beat The Treat will be popular here and have strong claims but it might be worth opposing them with Follow Charlie instead.

The five-year-old is a veteran of just five outings on the racecourse and last month's handicap hurdle debut here over 2m on soft ground was easily the best of those.

He made his challenge in that contest from three out and put it up to the winner, Gamigin, but was held on the run to the line after they'd pulled well clear of everything else.

The winner followed up comfortably at Down Royal on Boxing Day, beating 18 rivals.

Follow Charlie has only gone up 1lb for that silver medal and has scope for better now upped in trip. His rider Ben Smith lacks experience, but is compensated with his 10lb claim accordingly.

13:30 Fakenham - Lady Tremaine @ 13/2

Donald McCain sends out Lady Tremaine for her seasonal bow in the Fakenham Double-Up Bonus Is Back Mares' Handicap Chase over three-miles and it is a Class 5 event that might be within her reach off top-weight from a mark of 100.

Her last effort was disappointing at Bangor in May, but the bulk of her form comes with give in the ground and that drying, almost summer, surface might well have counted against her. She was never going with enthusiasm and was pulled up by Brian Hughes.

That was her third chase start and the earlier efforts at Ffos Las (2m3½f, heavy) and Southwell (3m½f, good to soft) were much more promising, including a head-defeat in second on that first outing.

She has won from 8lb higher over hurdles, has Peter Kavanagh back on board claiming 3lb and has a fairly sound record when fresh. There are plenty of positives for this unexposed chaser ahead of this return and a drop in grade is another of them.

19:30 Wolverhampton - Rogue Rosie @ 5/2

This 5f dash around Dunstall Park should offer a good opportunity for Rogue Rosie to shed the maiden tag for trainer Tom Clover with Rab Havlin on board.

The Magna Grecia filly was thrice a runner-up on turf last summer over trips from 5f-6f and has been applying herself well in four all-weather starts since the autumn.

The most recent of those came early in December over 5f at Lingfield and saw her beaten a length-and-a-half in third behind The Liegeman and Via Blanca - both of which have held up the form positively since.

Rogue Rosie was last turning off the Lingfield bend and had to manoeuvre to get racing room before surging home and just failing to grab second from Via Blanca, a rival she meets on much better terms now after Amy Murphy's filly won at Chelmsford 12 days ago.
