1 pt Tom Ford to win Quarter 1 - 9/1
Mark Allen lifted the trophy last year for the first time beating Ding Junhui 10-7 in the final and although he found form at the Champion of Champions last week, his ranking event performances have been below par so far for the season and he’s been handed a very tough draw for this event, starting with last years runner up Ding Junhui.
In this section of the draw I’ll go for Tom Ford to win the 1st quarter, one of the most in form players of the season so far, 5th on the 1 year list after his run to the International Championship final, which included wins over Selby and Hawkins. Has a decent record here reaching the semi-finals twice, including last season and 9/1 for him to repeat that feat looks a good price.
0.5 pts Zhang Anda each-way (1/2, 2 Places) - 33/1
In the bottom half of the draw, I’ll go for another very in form player and that’s the man that beat Ford in that final, Zhang Anda. Anda’s rise up the rankings has been incredible this season. After years of sitting around the middle of the rankings, he suddenly reached his first ranking event final at the English Open, before going on to win the International Championship.
The top ranked players (O’Sullivan, Robertson, Murphy and Brecel) in the bottom half of the draw are pretty all struggling for form lately and if Anda carries on with the way he’s been playing, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him in the latter stages of yet another tournament.
