There's plenty of jumps action taking place on Thursday with four UK and Irish meetings coming from Newbury, Ludlow, Clonmel and Sedgefield.

We are focused on the Co Durham venue here, where they race from 12:25-15:55 on a seven-race card set to go on 'soft' ground.

We've picked out three to follow, including Langton Wold for trainer Brian Ellison on his second hurdles start.

Sedgefield Tips

  • 13:00 - Langton Wold @ 9/4
  • 13:35 - Light Flicker @ 3/1
  • 14:10 - Coolmoyne @ 8/1

13:00 - Langton Wold @ 9/4

Brian Ellison's once-raced hurdler Langton Wold can collect in the JTC Pizzalicious Maiden Hurdle over two-miles-and-a-furlong.

The Cotai Glory gelding was a winner on the Flat last summer at Catterick and had a couple of placed efforts in that sphere this summer.

He was relatively fit for his hurdles bow over this course and distance last month and a winning start looked likely in the home straight, only for the game and gutsy It's A Love Thing to rally strongly and hold him off by a half-length in a tight three-way finish.

Third home there was favourite Western Soldier and he scored in straight-forward fashion on his next start in a novice hurdle at Plumpton.

Daryl Jacob takes over on Langton Wold here and with improvement likely from that run here four weeks ago, they should take some stopping in a race that lacks depth.

13:35 - Light Flicker @ 3/1

A competitive staying handicap chase over three-and-a-quarter-miles in which last-time-out Uttoxeter winner Dragonfruit will be popular. He's not been noted in the past for being a consistent sort and he might be worth opposing as such.

The likes of Fortcanyon is a player if stripping fit after 197 days off but top-weight Light Flicker can collect for Ryan Potter and Brian Hughes.

He's into the veteran stages now but doesn't have major miles on the clock. He is a five-time winner over fences and his comeback from more than a year on the sidelines last month was encouraging.

It came as a 66/1 shot in an amateur jockeys' handicap chase over this sort of trip at Cheltenham and he was right in the mix coming up the hill, finishing seventh of 19 and beaten just over five-lengths in the end.

This is nothing like as competitive and, a fortnight on, the 11-year-old may notch his first win since April 2022 (six runs).

14:10 - Coolmoyne @ 8/1

Coolmoyne should get a reward for consistency before long. The seven-year-old is 0-11 over fences now but has made the frame on four occasions.

He was denied a neck over course and distance last month on his seasonal return, hitting the front as they turned for home and leading all the way to within yards of line, only to be pickpocketed by Royle Steel under a determined drive from Brian Hughes.

Coolmoyne ran well at Carlisle since, beaten just over three-lengths despite finishing fifth of six, and the drop back to two-miles there might not have helped.

He has run well in all three Sedgefield starts, finishing second on both attempts at this trip, and could be in the firing line again.
