Betfred Big Winner: Customer scoops £40k from £8 bet

Geoff Popplewell believes an act of kindness paid off when he won big at Betfred just hours later.

The 62-year-old construction worker decided to give away a £5 scratchcard, then four hours later enjoyed some good fortune of his own, winning over £40,000 on the horses.

At his local Betfred shop in Witham, Essex, Geoff wagered a total of £8 on two bets – one win and one each-way accumulator on the same six selections at Wolverhampton.

The father-of-five won £35,8552 on his win acca and a further £7,617 on the each-way part to form a total win of £43,469 – which included £9,921 in Betfred bonuses.

Geoff said: “It’s my biggest ever win. I’ve picked up £15,000 at Betfred, who I switched to a year or so ago because of how friendly everyone is in the shop, before, but not this much.

“With Christmas on the horizon, it comes at a handy time. My partner and I are also off to Mexico in the new year, which is where she’s always wanted to go.”
