Europa league trophy scaled

Two wins from three games in Group A has put Freiburg in a strong position to reach the Europa League knockout round, as they prepare to host European minnows Backa Topola on Thursday (20:00).

So far, the visitors have only picked up one point in their maiden Europa League group stage, and they fell to a 3-1 defeat to Freiburg in the reverse fixture in Serbia last month.

Freiburg vs Backa Topola Betting Tips

  • Freiburg to win and over 3.5 goals @ 23/20
  • Vincenzo Grifo to score first @ 18/5

Team News

Rolland Sallai, Christian Gunter, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Maximilian Philip are all expected to miss out again for Freiburg, as they continue their recovery from injury.

The away side appear to have few problems on that front, with no noticeable absentees.

Match Odds

Freiburg are overwhelming favourites to win at 1/8, while a draw can be backed at 15/2. For those feeling adventurous, Backa Topola are priced 16/1 to claim their first Europa League group stage victory.

Both teams to score has won in all three of Freiburg's and Backa Topola's group stage games, and is 6/5 to happen again.

Freiburg to win and over 3.5 goals @ 23/20

After falling behind early on, Freiburg ripped Backa Topola apart in the second half, and they should be confident of doing so once more given the visitor's vulnerabilities in Europe this season.

The Serbians have conceded eight goals in three Europa League games, as well as seven in two Champions League qualifiers against Braga.

Before Sunday, they hadn't won or kept a clean sheet for five games.

If Backa Topola have any ambition to play European football in February, they will have to pick up a win sooner or later, and that should play into the hands of Freiburg, who are top scorers in Group A with seven goals.

Vincenzo Grifo to score first @ 18/5

After a relatively slow start to the season, Grifo issued a reminder of his talents with a second-half hat-trick in Freiburg's 3-1 defeat of Backa Topola last month.

That was on the back of a goal in the Bundesliga against Bochum, and the Italian further boosted his league total in the 3-3 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

His 96th-minute equaliser proved to be the last goal of the match, but 18/5 looks good value for the competition's joint-top scorer to bag the first on Thursday.
