I’ve done the maths and I’m operating at a 46% strike rate so far this month, with 12 winners from 26 tips. I’m on a bit of a roll, you could say.
NAP of the Day
- 13:50 Carlisle – Snake Roll @ 13/8
Lucinda Russell is one of my favourite trainers in the game. She’s top class – and I’m putting my faith in her again at Carlisle on Thursday.
Specifically, it’s Snake Roll who’s taken to get the better of six rivals in this Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase over 2m.
The six-year-old son of Jet Away was a decent novice hurdler, winning on his debut under rules around this time last year by a mere 15L, before a respectable effort in a Listed contest at Haydock a month later.
He then enjoyed another facile success in a novice event at Newcastle on Boxing Day, before taking in two Grade 2s – namely the Leamington Novices’ Hurdle at Warwick in January and the Premier Novices’ Hurdle at Kelso in March.
It was a no-show in the former race, which was run on desperate ground, but he placed in the latter, which has since proved a warm renewal.
For his final outing of the campaign, he lined up in a 0-140 handicap hurdle at Perth, off a mark of 126, and was narrowly defeated by a subsequent winner who’s now rated 130.
Snake Roll races off the same mark, which is unchanged in four starts, on his chasing debut. He looks well-treated, especially against some relatively exposed rivals.
Russell said he’s done plenty of schooling and jumps “very well”, plus the yard’s in good nick, operating at a 23% strike rate in the last couple of weeks with several of those winners having their first runs of the season, so I’m hopeful he’ll be ready to strike on his reappearance with conditions in his favour.
