After a huge weekend of high-class racing across Britain and Ireland, things are somewhat more easy-going and carefree on Monday, with four scheduled meetings filling the programme.

Flat racing comes from Brighton and Newcastle (AW), while jumps fare takes precedence at Perth, Newton Abbot and Galway on what is a busy start to the racing week.

An in-form Joe Tizzard selection features amongst our fancies for Monday’s action.

Monday Racing Tips

  • 15:50 Newton Abbot – Investment Manager @ 5/6
  • 16:05 Brighton – Dee’s Dream @ 6/1
  • 20:30 Newcastle – Glorious Rio @ 7/2

15:50 Newton Abbot – Investment Manager @ 5/6

Joe Tizzard has managed to help Investment Manager turn a corner, with the Nathaniel gelding now having won two of his three starts since undergoing a wind operation earlier in the summer.

Those wins have both come here at Newton Abbot, in July over 3m2f (good) and then last month when making light of the drop back in trip to this 2m5f distance.

Ridden by Brendan Powell in both instances, Investment Manager was in the lead or racing handy throughout those races and he found generously once push came to shove late in the race.

He’s rated 5lh higher now for this Ben Oliver Memorial Novices’ Handicap Chase and, three weeks on from the latest of those successes, is taken to continue his winning sequence.

16:05 Brighton – Dee’s Dream @ 6/1

Dee’s Dream has shown enough in two runs for her new yard to suggest she will shed the maiden tag before long.

Having finished second at this course in a mile maiden in October last year, she showed some promise on the all-weather over the winter.

By virtue of that, she started this season racing off a mark of 65 for Michael Attwater and was well held in her first five stars before finishing second at Windsor (1m3½f, good to firm) in July.

She then moved to Mike Murphy & Michael Keady and has had two starts for that operation so far. She was not able to justify market support on stable bow for these connections at Bath later in July but has since run with more purpose at Yarmouth over just shy of this trip in a first-time hood.

The headgear is dispensed with now and the daughter of James Garfield has slipped to a mark of 53, a perch from which she should be competitive in what isn’t a strong contest at Brighton.

20:30 Newcastle – Glorious Rio @ 7/2

The finale at Newcastle this evening is the WL Distillery Handicap over 5f and a race in which former course and distance winner Glorious Rio should go well for Stella Barclay.

The six-year-old has three wins over track and trip on his CV and ran well (fourth) here last month only to be disqualified after his jockey failed to weigh in.

He was second next time at Ayr (5f, good) and arrives back here after finishing third at Hamilton (5f, good to soft) on his most recent start.

Christian Howarth takes off a handy 5lb in the saddle this evening and Glorious Rio is selected from the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for the Newcastle nightcap.
