  • Getafe vs Mallorca - Under 2.5 Goals & Both teams to score - No @ 11/10 via #PickYourPunt
  • Celta Vigo vs Valencia - Celta Vigo to win @ 5/6
  • Overall Odds - 6.05/1

Leg 1 - Real Sociedad vs Atletico Madrid - Under 2.5 Goals @ 5/6

We start our quest for a final weekend La Liga acca win at the Reale Arena where Real Sociedad and Atlético Madrid meet in a clash between the teams that will finish in 6th and 4th places.

That represents a slight dip for both sides on last year, although they’ve had very different problems, with Real Sociedad struggling to score goals while Atleti have conceded far too many by their usually high standards at the back.

Diego Simeone’s side let in four in a shock home defeat against Osasuna last time out in what was very much an “end of season” performance in their first game since securing Champions League qualification. Los Rojiblancos were missing defensive regulars Axel Witsel and José María Giménez in that game though and both should return to bolster the central defence in this one.

They have been a bit better in recent road games, keeping clean sheets at Mallorca and Getafe in their last two while Real Sociedad come into this following back-to-back home clean sheets against Valencia and Las Palmas.

Imanol’s side have the joint second-best defensive record in the division and they claimed an excellent win at Betis last weekend to secure Europa League qualification with a stunning free kick from Brais Méndez setting them on their way to a 2-0 victory.

They don’t do enough from open play when compared to the other top teams in this division though, with the Real Sociedad boss seemingly trying to find new ways to compensate for the absence of a convincing striker every weekend.

That’s something they’ll look to address in the summer, but I can see it being a problem again here and I’m backing Under 2.5 Goals at 5/6, a winning bet in 67% of Real Sociedad home games and 56% of Atlético Madrid away games in La Liga 2023/24.

Leg 2 - Getafe vs Mallorca - Under 2.5 Goals & Both teams to score - No @ 11/10 via #PickYourPunt

The second leg comes from a game that has an even bigger chance of being a final weekend snooze-fest with Getafe and Mallorca two of the more cautious teams in the division and absolutely nobody was stunned when they played out a goalless draw earlier in the campaign.

Experienced Mexican boss Javier Aguirre has confirmed this week that he is leaving Mallorca having secured the club’s safety last weekend, despite only drawing at home to rock bottom Almería. He’s done a really solid job of establishing the Balearic Islanders in the top flight, with a Copa del Rey Final a surprise bonus this season, but from an outside perspective it has rarely been pretty.

They’re a team built to be solid defensively first and foremost and they’ve certainly succeeded on that front, with only three teams in the division conceding fewer than their tally of 43 goals against this term. They’ve been short on ideas in the final third far too often though, with direct football up to target-man Vedat Muriqi their main plan of action. With the Kosovo striker their joint top scorer on just six goals in La Liga this term, it’s clear where they have fallen short.

Getafe by contrast were able to benefit from the fine form of 15-goal Borja Mayoral for much of the campaign, but with the Spanish striker’s season ending in early March due to injury, they haven’t carried anywhere near the same threat since.

Since losing Mayoral, Getafe have frequently adopted a very defensive approach and they’ve only scored five goals in the 10 games since the injury and three of those came against bottom club Almería.

Eight of those 10 fixtures produced two or fewer goals in total and with really hot weather expected for this lunchtime kick-off in Madrid, I can’t see this game being anything other than a slow affair with little to get excited about.

As a result, I’m using the #PickYourPunt tool to back Under 2.5 Goals and Both teams to score - No at 11/10 with a repeat of the 0-0 draw from the meeting in Palma by no means out of the question.

Leg 3 - Celta Vigo vs Valencia - Celta Vigo to win @ 5/6

Celta Vigo are another side to have recently secured their safety and while they are still eight points behind Valencia in the overall standings, all the momentum and positive energy is with them heading into this match.

Claudio Giráldez was promoted from leading the B team to leading the first team at the age of just 36 in March. He has proven an inspired choice to replace Rafa Benítez whose reputation as an elite level coach feels like it has been shot to pieces after a pretty miserable spell in Galicia with a squad that always looked as though it might have been capable of more.

The recently appointed Giráldez has released the shackles to some extent and Celta have won five of their nine fixtures under his guidance, securing safety with a 2-1 win at Granada last weekend.

For a bottom half team, they have genuine firepower in their ranks with 13-goal Jørgen Strand Larsen enjoying a good season despite his team’s overall struggles while Iago Aspas continues to be a top performer even though he is the same age as his boss.

While there are still flaws in this Celta side, their extra quality in the final third might just be enough to see them past a Valencia side that has forgotten where the back of the net is.

With top scorer Hugo Duro missing some games through injury and going off the boil, they’ve looked desperately short in attack with just one goal scored in their last four while their season goal tally of 38 is really poor for a team that until only a few weeks ago, looked in genuine European contention.

Just one point in six matches has ended any talk of Europa or Conference League football at Mestalla next term and another uncertain summer awaits cash-strapped Valencia. They may struggle to get up for this largely meaningless affair and I’m backing in-form Celta to sign off with another win at 5/6.
