Radu Dragusin (ROM) 1+ shots

Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin made headlines with an all-action display in Romania's opening game of Euro 2024 as the Tricolorii downed Ukraine 3-0, and after a tough 2-0 defeat to Belgium, the 22-year-old helped to rouse his teammates for the 1-1 draw with Slovakia that clinched top spot in Group E and a last 16 tie with the Netherlands.

Dragusin's main job on Tuesday will be to keep out a Dutch side that scored twice in two of their three group games, with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo leading the Oranje charge on two goals.

However, Dragusin will also hope to get opportunities to put himself about in the opposition's box, as he did to decent effect against Belgium. The Red Devils kept a clean sheet in that game, but they were indebted to goalkeeper Koen Casteels for tipping over a bullet header from the Spurs centre-back in the fifth minute, and Dragusin took two further shots, one in the 85th minute and the other in the second minute of added time.

Dragusin had limited playing time in the Premier League in the second half of last season after joining in January from Genoa, but displayed his attacking prowess in the first half of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign, averaging 0.9 shots per game across 19 appearances and scoring twice.

After registering three shots against Belgium, all of which came after the Red Devils had taken the lead, I like the chances of Dragusin having at least one against the Netherlands, particularly if they fall behind, as many might expect.

Virgil van Dijk (NED) 1+ shots

It's probably fair to say Virgil van Dijk has had a mixed Euro 2024 campaign thus far having kept a clean sheet against France in between conceding once to Poland (in a 2-1 win) and three times to Austria (in a 3-2 defeat).

What can't be questioned, however, is his ability to get on the end of attacking set-piece situations.

The Liverpool captain had a shot in each of his three group games, all of which came from corners. His physicality makes him a nuisance for opposition defenders, including ones in the Premier League, a competition in which he averaged 1.2 shots per game last season. Van Dijk's 2022/23 and 2021/22 Premier League shots per game figures were 0.9 and one respectively if you required further historical evidence of his shooting consistency.

Romania conceded a shot each to Slovakia centre-backs Denis Vavro and Milan Skriniar last time out, while their previous game against Belgium saw veteran defender Jan Vertonghen register a shot from a corner.

Cody Gakpo (NED) 2+ tackles

Van Dijk's club teammate Gakpo has been making more headlines for his goalscoring exploits than his defensive workload, but the 25-year-old certainly hasn't been shy in putting himself about.

Gakpo is averaging 2.3 tackles per game at Euro 2024 after making two against each of Poland and France, and three against Austria. Those numbers make him the Netherlands' top tackler at the tournament, and he will be expected to keep up the intensity for the Oranje's first European Championship knockout tie since 2016.

Each team over 2.5 corners

Part of the logic in backing Dragusin and Van Dijk to register at least one shot each is that these teams have been earning a considerable number of corners.

The Netherlands took 14 corners across their three group games - six v Poland, three v France, five v Austria - while Romania earned two fewer, winning four v Ukraine, seven v Belgium and one v Slovakia.

Romania also conceded 16 - eight to Ukraine, seven to Belgium, five to Slovakia - and the Dutch 11 - three to Poland, six to France, two to Austria.

So, each team to win over 2.5 corners landed in two of the Netherlands' three group games - against Poland and France - and in two of Romania's three - against Ukraine and Belgium.

I think we will see a fairly open match on Tuesday, which should be good for the neutral, and good for this selection.
