After edging through their previous two knockout games, England have the chance to reach successive European Championship finals when they take on the Netherlands on Wednesday night (20:00), live on ITV1.

The winner of this tie will meet either France or Spain in Sunday's all-important decider. Read on for my Netherlands vs England prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Netherlands vs England Betting Tips

  • Under 2.5 goals (in 90 minutes) @ 1/2
  • England to win in extra-time @ 9/1
  • Correct Score 1-1 (in 90 minutes) @ 5/1

Euro 2024 Odds

England have copped plenty of criticism so far at Euro 2024, but once again they find themselves in the latter stages of a major tournament.

Standing in their way of back-to-back Euros finals are the Netherlands, who also displayed spirit to come from behind and defeat Turkey in their quarter-final clash.

The Three Lions' performance against Switzerland looked marginally better going forward, but for some reason, things aren't clicking in the final third of the pitch for Gareth Southgate's side.

On the contrary, the Netherlands have had eye-catching spells going forward but look vulnerable at the back, which could make for an entertaining semi-final.

Team News

Luke Shaw made his eagerly-awaited return to the England lineup with his cameo off the bench against Switzerland, and his availability gives Southgate some options at the back heading into this match.

Harry Kane was substituted in extra-time against the Swiss, but it's since been confirmed that the Bayern Munich man was suffering with cramp, so it's expected that he'll keep his place in the starting XI here.

Marc Guehi will return from suspension, and will battle it out with Ezri Konsa for a place alongside John Stones in the England backline.

As for the Netherlands, Wout Weghorst's half-time introduction against Turkey spearheaded their comeback, so the former Manchester United man could be rewarded with a start.

Virgil van Dijk will captain the side from central defence, with tournament joint-top goalscorer Cody Gakpo keeping his place in attack.

Netherlands vs England Odds

England can be backed to win the game in 90 minutes at 13/8, giving them an implied probability of 38.1%. The Netherlands are priced up at 11/5, while the draw is available at 15/8.

The Three Lions are favourites to win the tie at 8/11, while Oranje are 1/1, and it's 8/1 for either side to win on penalties.

Under 2.5 goals (in 90 minutes) @ 1/2

As mentioned above, England haven't exactly been firing on all cylinders when it comes to goalscoring, but they've been efficient. Five games, three draws and no more than a goal scored (in 90 minutes) against Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia and Switzerland reflects that.

In fact, at half time against Switzerland, there hadn't been a shot on target for either side for only the second time in the tournament's history.

Southgate's side only scored twice in the group stages of the last Euros too, but they came alive in the knockout stages en route to the final, but I find it difficult to see England developing a free-flowing attack come Wednesday.

Semi-finals are also usually hugely tense affairs - of the last 14 Euro semis, nine have seen two or fewer goals, seven have ended square after 90 minutes and four have ended goalless, so I'm taking under 2.5 goals here.

Under 2.5 goals in 90 mins at 1-2

England to win in extra time @ 9/1

England's other two knockout matches have gone to extra time so it seems almost inevitable that Wednesday's clash will too.

I was impressed with England's penalties against Switzerland - how often can we say that - but I think Southgate's men have enough quality to get the job done in 120 minutes.

The changes made by Southgate in extra time against the Swiss seemed to pay dividends, and one of England's biggest strengths are their options off the bench. The Netherlands don't have the same quality to bring on and impact a game in my opinion, and that could be the difference on Wednesday night.

England to win in extra time at 9-1

Correct Score 1-1 (in 90 minutes) @ 5/1

In terms of a score prediction, I'm opting for 1-1 in 90 minutes.

As outlined above, England have been goal-shy this whole tournament, and semi-final matches tend to be low-scoring. I think the two sides will cancel each other out in 90 minutes, and the difference-makers will stand up and be counted in extra time.

1-1 in 90 minutes at 5-1
