So, here it is. Over eight-and-a-half years of tremendous highs, some heavy lows, and all that goes in between – Liverpool’s Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday (KO, 16:00) will be the last of Jurgen Klopp’s reign as Reds boss.

As a Liverpool supporter, one who lived in the city for much of his tenure, I could wax lyrical for a long time about just how much he captivated the community, as well as masterminded the club to searing success. But I’ll spare you – especially those of an anti-Klopp disposition – my love letter for the big German, and instead crack on with my Liverpool vs Wolves prediction, for a match that will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Premier League.

Liverpool vs Wolves Betting Tips

  • Liverpool to win & both teams to score @ 23/20
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold 2+ shots on target @ 5/1

Team News

Liverpool announced on Friday that Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara would be leaving after their respective contracts end this summer. Matip has been injured since December and will be unable to make a farewell appearance on Sunday, but there is hope that Thiago could feature after being spotted in training earlier this week.

Diogo Jota has been sidelined for the past four matches but will be desperate to return to face his old side this weekend, while Andy Robertson should be recovered from the issue that kept him out of the squad at Villa Park on Monday, when the Reds played out a 3-3 thriller with Aston Villa.

Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai and Darwin Nunez are among those hoping to be promoted to the starting XI.

Craig Dawson and Leon Chiwome will miss out for the visitors, but Pedro Neto could return from a 10-game injury absence as the Portugal international looks to prove his fitness ahead of Euro 2024.

Goalkeeper Daniel Bentley deputised for the stricken Jose Sa in last weekend's 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, but Wolves number one should be fine to retake his place back in the starting XI.

Liverpool beat Wolves 3-1 in September's reverse fixture and are 1/6 to do the double over the opponents, giving them an implied win probability of 85.7%, while the visitors are 14/1, or a 6.7% chance, to spoil Klopp's final game.

The draw can be backed at 7/1, both teams to score at 4/6, and over 4.5 goals at 5/4.

Hwang Hee-chan opened the scoring at Molineux when these sides last met, and the South Korean is 11/1 to fire first again.

Liverpool to win & both teams to score @ 23/20

It's the final day of the 2023/24 campaign for these sides, who have very little to play for in the grand scheme of things. Liverpool sit comfortably in third, and while Wolves can still achieve a top-10 finish, it would take a lot for that to happen, as they need to better the result of three sides - Brighton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace - above them.

Both clubs were involved in high-scoring games on the last day of the previous season, with Liverpool drawing 4-4 at Southampton and Wolves drubbed 5-0 at Arsenal.

I'm not sure how realistic eight goals is this weekend, but we could see Wolves beaten by a large margin again as Liverpool look to serve up one final big win for their adored boss.

I expect them to achieve that, but Wolves should be confident of finding the net themselves. Gary O'Neil's side have scored in their last three matches, while Liverpool haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their previous 10 Premier League outings.

The Reds' defensive deficiencies were on full display at Villa Park on Monday as Aston Villa struck three times, while Tottenham Hotspur scored twice at Anfield earlier this month.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 2+ shots on target @ 5/1

Few players encapsulate Klopp’s era at Anfield like Trent Alexander-Arnold. The scouser was given his debut by the German in October 2016, and went on to establish himself as one of the finest players of his generation, setting the Premier League assists record – since bettered by teammate Robertson - for a defender in the process.

Still only 25, there is plenty left for the England international to achieve in his career, but the rest will be done without the guidance of the man to whom he owes so much.

I’m expecting the Liverpool vice-captain to go all out to give him a great send-off, and that could mean we see him test the goalkeeper out a few times on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold averages 1.6 shots per game in the Premier League this season, but only averages 0.3 shots on target per game.

However, those statistics have been on the up recently, with two shots (one on target) against Villa on Monday, four (zero) against Spurs, four (two) against West Ham United, one (zero) against Everton, and one (one, a goal from a free-kick) against Fulham.

Liverpool are likely to have plenty of shots on Sunday in a match which has no real significance in terms of their league standing, as they are guaranteed a third-place finish.

Therefore, I expect them to play with real freedom and fire off shots from all angles at Anfield, with Alexander-Arnold likely to be leading the onslaught as he tests his shooting boots out ahead of the upcoming European Championship.

The last time Liverpool faced Wolves at Anfield on the final day of the season was in May 2022, when the Reds were going for the title, and the Liverpool right-back had three shots in that game, one of which went on target.
