HSV Hamburg

Georgia gave a very good account of themselves on their European Championship debut on Tuesday despite losing 3-1 to Turkey. They certainly raised a few eyebrows with their attacking performance and many will think they will cause problems for the Czech Republic, whom they meet in Hamburg on Saturday (14:00, BBC One).

Both teams need a result here to keep their Euros hopes alive, and I think we could be in for an intriguing contest. Below I have put together my Georgia vs Czech Republic bet builder tips, which combined, pay out at 6/1.

Georgia vs Czech Republic Bet Builder Tips

  • Georges Mikautadze 3+ shots
  • Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal 1+ fouls each
  • Georgia or draw

Georges Mikautadze 3+ shots

Georgia's striker Georges Mikautadze was very busy in the opening match against Turkey. He had five attempts at goal, one of which was on target and successful as he pulled his side level at 1-1.

Mikautadze headed into the Euros off the back of an impressive season on a personal note, having netted 10 goals for French club Metz as they were relegated from Ligue 1. There was no doubt he would be a key figure for Georgia on their major tournament debut, and after having several chances against Turkey, I think he can get some more joy against the Czech Republic.

Czechia were beaten 3-1 by Portugal in their opening match despite taking the lead, but their defensive shape was suspect at times, which Georgia will have analysed closely ahead of their meeting on Saturday.

Mikautadze will be charged with trying to bully the Czech defenders and I think he is more than capable with his physicality. Therefore, I do see the striker being able to get some more goalscoring chances when he takes to the field in Hamburg.

Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal 1+ fouls each

West Ham United duo Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal are key figures for the Czech Republic, and thanks to their Hammers experiences, are no strangers to aggressive challenges.

Soucek surprisingly committed just one foul against Portugal on Tuesday, while Coufal didn't get penalised once. I do see this changing when they face Georgia because, unlike Portugal who tried to play pragmatically, the Crusaders are very much direct. Once they get a chance to break they will burst forward at speed.

I can see this happening a few times against Czechia, like it did against Turkey. And given that Soucek and Coufal are a defensive midfielder and right-back respectively, they will be charged with snuffing out such breaks. They will be successful in some, but I think the pace of the Georgian wingers will draw them into some tactical fouls.

Georgia or draw

It is fair to say that Turkey's 3-1 win over Georgia was a flattering scoreline. The extra goal came at the death after the Crusaders sent goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili up for a corner, for which they were punished. But that was a testament to the spirit of Georgia. They were playing as if it were already knockout football rather than the opening group match.

They are going to play with an intensity I am not sure the Czech Republic are prepared for, which could leave them vulnerable. That is why I can see Georgia getting their first-ever point(s) on the board at the European Championship, as I think their attacking players will look to play direct and I'm not convinced that Czechia will be able to handle it.

Georgia's heart and desire has probably trumped every team so far at Euro 2024, and their whole mantra will be to win every second ball, which I can see them prevailing at against Saturday's opponents, who were sometimes a bit too casual against Portugal.

I think covering Georgia or draw for double chance is a smart selection here. They know they need to get a result to have their destiny in their own hands ahead of the clash with Portugal in matchday three, who they will be hoping have already sealed their qualification by the time they meet.
