Genoa vs Bologna Prediction: I Rossoblu to end on a high

The 2023/24 Serie A season comes to a close for both Genoa and Bologna on Friday evening, with the duo clashing at Stadio Luigi Ferraris at 19:45.

Genoa have a clean bill of health for this contest and they could recall striker Albert Gudmundsson, who leads his club's scoring charts in Serie A this season with 14.

Bologna are without Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson, who is battling back from an ACL injury that has ruled him out of Euro 2024, while striker Joshua Zirkzee is expected to miss out again with a hamstring issue.

This could be the final time Thiago Motta takes charge of Bologna as the Brazilian continues to be linked with the Juventus position, so he will want to end his time with the Red and Blues on a high.

It has been a brilliant season for Bologna, who have secured a place in the 2024/25 Champions League and can finish third if they beat Genoa and results elsewhere go their way.

Motta's troops are on a nine-game unbeaten streak, winning four and drawing five, and a strong defence has been a key reason for this impressive run with six clean sheets kept during this period.

It went a little awry at the back last time out, as they gave up a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at home to Juventus, but that can be forgiven and they should return to their solid defensive ways on Friday.

Bologna have recorded shutouts in four of their last five away fixtures and they can prevent Genoa from getting on the scoresheet, just like what happened in their 1-0 loss to Roma last time out.

With top scorer Zirkzee expected to miss out for Bologna, others in the team will have to step up and the 4/1 available on Alexis Saelemaekers to score any time is hard to ignore.

On loan from AC Milan, the Belgium international's temporary move is expected to be made permanent and he will be eager to rubber-stamp that decision by finding the back of the net.

The 24-year-old may have scored only four Serie A goals this season, but three of those have come in his last seven appearances and he is enjoying a strong end to the campaign.
