The most recent 'golden generation' of Spanish football has officially passed, and Luis de la Fuente has set about rebuilding this squad by blending youth with experience.

La Roja recently won the Nations League and reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020, before a poor showing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which they will be looking to bounce back from in Germany. Below you can find my Euro 2024 Spain prediction, as well as assessment the squad and the latest top scorer odds.

Euro 2024 Predictions - Spain

  • Outright winners @ 7/1
  • To qualify from group @ 1/16
  • To win group @ 4/5
  • Stage of elimination - semi-final @ 4/1
  • Top team goalscorer - Alvaro Morata @ 7/4

The last-16 elimination against Morocco in the 2022 World Cup is probably one of Spain's lowest points in recent years, but their squad looks different now heading into Euro 2024 this summer.

With the likes of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba having left the national team set-up for good, the last dregs of one of the greatest international sides of all-time have disappeared, but De la Fuente has rebuilt the Spanish squad, combining a healthy blend of youth and experience, as shown in their qualification campaign which they breezed through.

La Roja won seven of their eight games, and scoring the third-most goals in qualification with 25. They lost to Scotland at Hampden Park but that was their only slip-up and they ended up topping their group regardless.

The Spanish have been drawn in Group B alongside Italy and Croatia - the two sides they beat on the way to winning the Nations League - and an unknown quantity in Albania, so it'll be tough to progress.

Euro 2024 Odds

Squad

Goalkeepers: Alex Remiro, David Raya, Unai Simon.

Defenders: Aymeric Laporte, Robin Le Normand, Alex Grimaldo, Dani Carvajal , Dani Vivian, Jesus Navas, Nacho, Cucarella.

Midfielders: Mikel Merino, Fabian Ruiz, Alex Baena, Martin Zubimendi, Rodrigo, Pedri, Fermin.

Forwards: Alvaro Morata, Dani Olmo, Joselu, Lamine Yamal, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ayoze Perez, Ferran Torres, Nico Williams.

Outright winners @ 7/1

Despite this being a transitional tournament for Spain, they're still regarded as one of the favourites, possibly because they haven't failed to make it out of the group stage since Euro 2004 in Portugal.

De la Fuente must ensure that the penalty shootout defeat to Morocco in Qatar was nothing more than a blip, and he will be eager to see his team lay a marker down.

Spain to win Euro 2024 at 7-1

To qualify from group @ 1/16

As mentioned, Group B consists of Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania.

Two teams will qualify and four of the six best third-placed teams will advance to the last-16 stage, so I'm expecting Spain, Croatia, and Italy to really go for broke when they face Albania.

Whether it's as one of the best third-placed sides or topping the group, I do expect Spain to advance to the knockout rounds without any trouble.

To win group @ 4/5

On paper, Spain are probably the strongest side in the group.

They've already beaten Italy and Croatia recently on the way to lifting the Nations League, and as long as they don't underestimate Albania, they should be fine.

It does feel as though Spain are travelling to the Euros with a very good foundation in place, and I think they'll surprise few people.

Stage of elimination - semi-final @ 4/1

La Roja managed to reach this stage in Euro 2020, and I think De la Fuente would take a semi-final exit, considering how young this current squad is. Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal will be only 16 when the tournament starts and the likes of Alex Baena, Nico Williams, Pedri and Fermin Lopez are all relatively inexperienced when it comes to major tournaments.

Where I think Spain will fall short is due to the notable absentees within the squad. Gavi, who has already become a key cog in De la Fuente's system sustained an ACL tear on international duty with Spain back in October, while fellow Barca graduate, Alejandro Balde is also absent undergoing surgery on a serious muscle tear in January.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Pedro Porro, Jose Gaya, Pau Torres, Marcos Llorente, and Marco Asensio are all other notable absentees.

Stage of Elimination - semis at 4-1

Top team goalscorer - Alvaro Morata @ 7/4

Alvaro Morata has played for some of European football's biggest clubs in Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, but throughout his career, it feels like his ability to score goals has been questioned. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old has scored over 200 career goals, and will be Spain's captain for this tournament.

Spain have had some excellent number nine's over the years - Fernando Torres, David Villa and Raul immediately spring to mind - and despite scoring the third-most goals in qualifying, La Roja still look a bit goal-shy up top.

Joselu could be a decent put at 5/1 after his heroics in the Champions League for Real Madrid - just ask Bayern Munich what he's capable of late in games.
