Euro 2024 Team Betting Predictions: Portugal

Portugal have a real chance of winning Euro 2024. In fact, they are my pick to go all the way and lift the trophy in Germany, just as they did in France in 2016. They seem to be undervalued in the market compared to the likes of England and Germany, and although France always pose a threat, this Portugal team has the ability to go toe-to-toe with Kylian Mbappe and Co. 

With superstars all over the pitch, Portugal have an easy group to get out of, and I’m really positive about their hopes in Germany. We must also mention Roberto Martinez, who earned his international stripes at Belgium without ever winning a major title. However, he did take them to a World Cup semi-final in 2018, having beaten Brazil in the quarter-finals and they only lost 1-0 to eventual champions France. 

The squad is simply ridiculous, as you can see below. Cristiano Ronaldo’s role is yet to be determined, but he is one hell of a goalscorer to be able to rely on, even from the bench. Elsewhere, Rafa Leao, Diogo Jota, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos provide wonderful options, while Joao Palhinha and Bernardo Silva are incredible midfielders. 

Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Diogo Dalot and Pepe are solid at the back, with other options such as Nuno Mendes and Nelson Semedo providing great depth. This is a side that won 10 from 10 in qualifying, scoring goals for fun. There’s a lot to be excited about, as they enter this competition with an experienced manager, and a fantastic squad.

Portugal to win Euro 2024 @ 7/1

In a group with Turkey, Czech Republic and Georgia, Portugal should have no problem securing maximum points and progressing into the last 16. There, according to my predictions using the Euro 2024 Predictor, they will face a weak Italy side, before coming up against Ukraine in the quarter-finals. That is a fairly simple run to the final four, where they could face Germany or Spain.

I’d back them to beat both of those nations, before facing England or France in the final. I’m not particularly hot on England right now, and would back Portugal to beat the Three Lions, while in my eyes, France would be a 50/50 match. I think at 7/1, we are getting excellent value for Portugal to go all the way.

Portugal to win Group F @ 4/9

A short price, but as much as a sure-thing as I think we are going to get this tournament. Portugal are by far the strongest team in what is a simple group on paper. We may see a shock here, but it won’t come from Portugal - I think Georgia may be able to finish second, but Portugal are likely to win this group in style. 

Total group points - 9 @ 5/2

This should be three big wins from three for Martinez’s side. They have such attacking quality that I am not expecting them to struggle in any of these games, and the order of them should also suit Portugal. They face the Czech Republic first, before taking on Turkey and then Georgia. After two wins from two they may make changes, but they have enough squad depth to beat Georgia in that final game even with their second team. 

Top team scorer: Goncalo Ramos @ 6/1

The favourite to be Portugal’s top scorer is obviously Cristiano Ronaldo, but I think there could be value in looking elsewhere. At the 2022 World Cup, Ronaldo lost his starting spot to Goncalo Ramos, and although Ronaldo is liked by Martinez, I think gametime could be split between the two. 

Ramos proved how lethal he could be in Qatar, and I think he will usurp Ronaldo at some point for the starting spot. If he does, the creative players around him could provide him with a whole lot of ammunition, and I think Ramos may end as Portugal’s top scorer at a big price.
