Hungary are all set for their third consecutive appearance at a European Championship this summer, and there is confidence among supporters and observers that they can at least match their Euro 2016 exploits and reach the knockout stage in Germany.

Below you can find my Euro 2024 Hungary predictions and all the latest betting odds as the Magyars go head-to-head with the hosts, Switzerland and Scotland in Group A.

Euro 2024 Predictions - Hungary

  • Outright Winners @ 80/1
  • To Qualify From Group A @ 8/13
  • To Win Group A @ 13/2
  • Stage Of Elimination - Last 16 @ 6/4
  • Top Team Goalscorer - Dominik Szoboszlai @ 3/1

Hungary topped a qualifying group containing Serbia and Montenegro to book their place at Euro 2024. Marco Rossi's side went unbeaten across eight games, winning five of them, and a late 2-1 defeat to the Republic of Ireland in an international friendly on June 4 is their only loss in their last 16 matches.

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has been instrumental to their success, and the 23-year-old registered four goals and four assists across eight qualifiers.

Other key players include full-back Milos Kerkez (AFC Bournemouth) and forward Roland Sallai (Freiburg), both of whom shone at various points of the season for their clubs, Sallai notably in the Europa League where he struck four times in nine appearances.

Euro 2024 Odds

Outright Winners @ 80/1

There are nine nations lower down in the betting to win the tournament, while Hungary have been mooted in some quarters as potential dark horses.

However, it would still be a huge shock were they to go the whole distance in Germany after exiting at the group stage in Euro 2020, where they failed to win a game, albeit they were in the 'Group of Death' alongside France, Germany and Portugal and could be proud of losing just once.

To Qualify From Group A @ 8/13

Hungary can be thankful for avoiding another 'Group of Death' scenario, with that title going to Group C (Spain, Italy, Croatia, Albania) this year.

As such, they can be confident in their chances of progression to the last 16, particularly as third place could see them qualify.

Scotland are regarded as the weakest team in the group, so Hungary will be targeting all three points against the Tartan Army in their final game on June 23.

Second place is also achievable with Switzerland only narrowly ahead of them in this market. I think it will be a close call between both, but ultimately, I see Hungary and Switzerland advancing to the next stage of the competition.

To Win Group A @ 13/2

Germany are clear favourites to win Group A for several reasons, chiefly due to home advantage and the higher calibre of players they can call upon.

It's not out of the question that the hosts could fall flat on their faces this summer given their failure to get out of a group containing Spain, Japan and Costa Rica at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, so there could be some value in backing another side to top Group A, but it's not something I would be confident in backing.

Stage Of Elimination - Last 16 @ 6/4

This is the most likely exit point for Hungary, in my opinion. Should the Magyars finish second in Group A they would be paired with the second-placed side from Group B, likely to be one of Spain, Italy or Croatia.

I think the Hungarians would find it tough against all three, particularly Spain or Croatia, and I believe those two countries will finish in the top half of Group B.

A successful third-place finish, meanwhile, would see them come up against a winner from Group B, E or F. I've already touched upon the potential winners of Group B, while Belgium and Portugal are red-hot favourites to win Group E and F respectively.

A tie against either Belgium or Portugal would be extremely difficult for Rossi's side.

Top Team Goalscorer - Dominik Szoboszlai @ 3/1

Szoboszlai was Hungary's joint-top scorer in qualifying alongside Barnabas Varga (both four goals) and the Liverpool star will be heavily relied upon by his nation in Germany this summer.

Varga (7/2) and Sallai (4/1) are other considerations in this market but are less likely to play the duration of Hungary's matches unlike Szoboszlai, who also takes penalties.

Hungary's captain has scored 17 of his 18 career spot-kicks, netting all three he has taken for his country, further bolstering his chances of being their top goalscorer at Euro 2024.
