Cheltenham vs Peterborough

Two teams at opposite ends of the League One table meet at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium on Tuesday night as relegation-threatened Cheltenham Town host a Peterborough United team bound for the play-offs.

The home side will need to win their last two games in the third tier and hope Burton Albion or Cambridge United slip up in their remaining matches to ensure they avoid the drop. Cheltenham are five points behind Burton and Cambridge, but they will be given a lifeline, with Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson confirming he will name a "completely different team" for Tuesday's encounter. Below you can find my Cheltenham vs Peterborough prediction, as well as team news and match odds.

Cheltenham vs Peterborough Prediction

  • Over 2.5 goals @ 4/6
  • Cheltenham Town - Draw no bet @ 11/10

Team News

Cheltenham boss Darrell Clarke is expected to be without Lewis Freestone, Tom Pett, George Lloyd, Aidan Keena and Rob Street due to injury.

Clarke may freshen up his team after their 2-1 defeat to Lincoln last time out, with Jack Shepherd and Joe Nuttall both pushing to start after stepping off the bench against the Imps.

Ferguson is without Jeando Fuchs (knee) and Michael Olakigbe (foot), while Kwame Poku is a doubt due to an ankle problem.

Even though the Posh can still finish in the top two, Ferguson's side cannot finish any lower than fourth, and he has said that he expects his team to compete in the play-offs.

As a result, he has revealed he plans to name a new team in midweek, in order to keep his side fresh.

Match Odds

Cheltenham are 7/4 - or a 36.4% chance - to pick up all three points, with the draw 7/5, while Peterborough are 23/20 to win on the road.

Both teams to score is available at 4/7, with five of Cheltenham's last seven League One games having seen both teams score.

Over 2.5 goals is available at 4/6, while Jonson Clarke-Harris, Ricky-Jade Jones and Ephron Mason-Clark are all 21/10 to score at any time.

Over 2.5 goals @ 4/6

Despite the expected changes from Ferguson, this should be a high-scoring battle in League One.

Eight of Cheltenham's last 10 games have contained three goals or more, and they have kept just two clean sheets in their last 11 at home.

Peterborough have scored in six of their last seven in all competitions, and Ferguson will expect his fringe players to make their mark as they try to enter the play-offs in the best form possible.

Over 2.5 goals at 4-6

Cheltenham Town - Draw no bet @ 11/10

Tuesday's match is a must-win tie for Cheltenham, and they will not get a better chance to beat Peterborough.

The Posh have lost only one of their last six in all competitions, but naming a weakened XI may not bring Ferguson the result he wants. His players are looking to avoid injury and are thinking of the future, while Cheltenham have to snatch all three points to hope they have something to play for on Saturday against Stevenage.

Cheltenham's extra motivation could be the deciding factor in what could be a chaotic game in the third tier.
