Football Bet of the Day: Back the goals in Leipzig

Tuesday's football bet of the day comes from the final last 16 tie of Euro 2024, as Austria and Turkey lock horns at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig (20:00, ITV1).

There were plenty of goals in games involving both in the group stage, and that's the way we're heading for tomorrow's football bet of the day.

The goals didn't exactly fly in Austria's Euro 2024 opener with France as they lost 1-0 through a Maximilian Wober own-goal, but their second Group D game was much more eventful as they beat Poland 3-1.

Ralf Rangnick's side scored three again in their third group game as they beat the Netherlands 3-2 to top the group ahead of France and set up a last-16 tie with Group F runners-up Turkey, who were involved in their fair share of drama in the group stage.

The Crescent-Stars beat Georgia 3-1 in their opening match before losing 3-0 to Portugal and securing second place with a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic.

That means there have been at least three goals in all of their Euro 2024 contests so far, while Austria have seen over 2.5 goals in two of their three.

What the two nations do have in common, though, is that two of their three matches have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. I think we can blame the stinginess of Didier Deschamps' France for this selection failing to land in Austria's opening game, while a combination of great play from a possession-orientated Portugal and an unfortunate own-goal put paid to Turkey's hopes in their Dortmund clash.

Austria are favourites for Tuesday but there isn't too much between these sides, certainly not to the level there was between Austria and France or Turkey and Portugal, and that should create the conditions for an entertaining contest in Leipzig.

Both teams have scored in five of Austria's six internationals this calendar year, with BTTS and over 2.5 goals landing in four of them, while both teams have found the net in four of Turkey's seven games in 2024, all of which saw BTTS and over 2.5 goals land.

Hakan Cahlanoglu is suspended for Turkey but the Crescent-Stars can still call upon the likes of Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz to create some magic in attack, while Marcel Sabitzer and Cristoph Baumgartner have starred for Austria in Germany.
