Australia vs Scotland Prediction: Head to continue hot streak

Australia have a dilemma in their final pool game, if they lose to Scotland they will eliminate rivals England but risk accusations of gamesmanship, while if they win they will likely grant one of the favourites for the competition a spot in the next round.

Scotland’s task is simple, they must win this game to progress as they take on an Australian side that have been impressive in the early part of this T20 World Cup and have already secured a spot in the next round. Below you can find my Australia vs Scotland predictions. 

Australia vs Scotland Odds

Australia are heavy 1/9 favourites to get the victory in this clash, with Scotland trading at 11/2 for an upset success that would grant them passage to the Super Eight at England’s expense.

David Warner and Travis Head are joint 5/2 favourites to be Australia’s top run scorer, while George Munsey and Michael Jones are the 7/2 joint-favourites to be the top run scorer for Scotland.

Team news

Australia’s team selection will be a source of great intrigue given the stakes of this game and they are keeping their cards close to their chests in that regard.

There is likely to be some rotation however, with Ashton Agar, Cameron Green and Josh Inglis all potentially set to be handed an opportunity to play.

Scotland will undoubtedly field their strongest lineup and will be hoping to cause the upset.

Scotland’s success in this year’s T20 World Cup has been a team effort, but bowler Brad Wheal has been one of their most impressive performers.

The 27-year-old has taken four wickets in the two completed matches, including figures of 3/33 against Namibia, where he was top Scotland wicket taker.

The fast bowler has an average of 21 in T20I cricket and he could find some joy against the Australian’s left-handers.

Wheal averages 19.7 at an economy of 6.38 against lefties when playing for his country, so side with him to be Scotland’s top wicket taker here.

Travis Head top Australian run scorer @ 5/2  

Australia’s batting line-up has been one of the most impressive at this year’s T20 World Cup and opener Travis Head has put in some solid displays, recording knocks of 34, 34 not out and 12.

His record in T20 cricket in 2024 has been top notch, he has made 749 runs at an average of 39.42 across all games in the format.

Head is unlikely to be dropped and his performances in T20 cricket this year make him an understandable favourite in the Australian top run scorer market.
