NFL Prop Bets: Hot out of the gates treble pays 5/1 on Sunday

Plenty of shocks on pretty much a weekly basis in the National Football League right now. The Pats head the AFC East. The Chiefs and Ravens prop up the AFC West. The Bills are on a losing streak of two. For the Ravens, it's four! If your head's spinning, you're in good company. Excitement and high drama by the bucketload. The Bengals have already derailed the Steelers, so I wonder in this new week what Sunday has in store?

For our Week 7 prop accumulator, let's look at one of those fabulously dotty markets, definitely designed for fun stakes only - First Team To Score. Let's see if we can predict what's going to happen in the very early stages of a few of today's contests.

Bears vs Saints - Bears @ 7/10

Two NFC giants who prop up their Divisions right now but in fairly contrasting circumstances.

In the North the Bears find themselves languishing despite a hugely respectable 3-and-2 record because their fellow campers are in marginally better nick. For the Saints it's a derisory 1-and-5 in the South and one of the lowest points hauls so far at 111.

In this rather gloriously un-scientific of markets I'm hoping all my selections miraculously possess the football first - but as we know that's not crucial, and they merely have to come up with the game's first score.

Chicago are on a win streak of three and the Soldier Field faithful will demand that they put New Orleans away on Sunday.

Vikings vs Eagles - Vikings @ 20/21

By their exacting standards the Eagles are presently doing the polar opposite of flying, soaring, or any of the usual tags applied to this storied outfit from Philadelphia.

However - they still lead the AFC East (4-and-2), and will presumably wake up from their present two-defeats-in-a-row slumbers at some point. The Vikings are in that red-hot AFC North, and at 3-and-2 are firmly in Bear country.

The Eagles, given their pedigree not current form, are favourites for this but I can see the home team giving them plenty of trouble - including, hopefully, scoring first.

Jets vs Panthers - Jets @ 10/11

Jets are 0-and-6. Ouch. However (a word that's doing plenty of heavy lifting today); in several of those contests they've been bang in it and only gone down by very narrow margins.

They're due a change of luck but of course the beauty of this bet (there has to be at least one) is that they don't need to win, merely get out of the traps first in the scoring department.

Carolina have a symmetrical 3-from-3 record right now and are slim favourites to take this, but hopefully MetLife can see the home side register first whatever eventually goes down.

To re-iterate - 'prop' (proposition) bets are additional avenues for a bit of fun; and when lumped together in an acca of some kind offer the prospect of a reasonable return. There are loads associated with every NFL contest - check 'em out.
