Charlotte Hornets -5.5 (vs Miami Heat) @ 20/23

The Hornets have been one of the surprise packages of the second half of the season and certainly one of the better teams to follow over the last few months.

I struggle to see them coming unstuck against the Miami Heat here, who had a mixed end to the regular season. Charlotte won the most recent meeting between the pair at home, 136-106, and were dominant on both sides of the ball.

LaMelo Ball has been excellent in recent weeks and rookie Kon Knueppel has been doing his best Steph Curry impression from behind the three-point line, so the Hornets will be tough to stop.

The one thing the Heat have in their favour is more play-off experience, but that will only count for so much if they're not shooting well. I'm going to take Charlotte on the spread here.

Portland Trail Blazers (@ Phoenix Suns) @ 11/8

Next, I'm backing the Portland Trail Blazers to cause an upset on the road against the Phoenix Suns. A first-round match-up with the San Antonio Spurs awaits the winner.

Portland beat the Suns 92-77 on the road at the end of February, so I'm not counting on Phoenix to make home advantage to count here.

The Suns have notoriously had issues with winning in the post-season in recent years, and Portland are a young, athletic team with nothing to lose here really, and they'll play without any fear. Phoenix's demons could come back to haunt them once more.
