MLB Betting Tips: 4/1 win treble for Wednesday’s critical Division Series
The big-ticket World Series match-up of the New York Yankees against the Los Angeles Dodgers is under serious threat as the MLB postseason continues on Wednesday night (live on TNT Sports channels from 20:00 BST).
The Dodgers face possible elimination when they take on the San Diego Padres in Game 4 of the Division Series, and that’s just a quarter of the thrilling action covered in my MLB Betting Tips.
MLB Postseason Betting Tips - Wednesday, October 9
AL Division Series Game 3: Cleveland Guardians @ Detroit Tigers Odds (20:08 BST)
A Tarik Skubal masterclass and clutch Kerry Carpenter home run in the ninth brought the Tigers level in the series on Monday in Cleveland, but with the contest heading for Comerica Park all bets are off.
The Tigers with make a late call on their starting pitcher once more as AJ Hinch goes for “chaos” in his strategy whenever Skubal isn’t up.
Alex Cobb is handed the ball for the Guards despite having not pitched since September 1 in an injury-decimated season which saw him start just three games.
The two teams can’t be split by Betfred, with the 10/11 odds on either side of the ledger showing just how close this one could be.
NL Division Series Game 4: Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Mets Odds (22:08 BST)
The Phillies will have to give the National League comeback kings a taste of their own medicine if they are to progress having fallen 2-1 behind in the series with Tuesday’s 7-2 loss in Game 3.
The big-hitting Phils’ bats have gone quiet for the most part, meaning a repeat of their 2022 World Series appearance seems a long way off.
They’ll be hoping Ranger Suarez can give them life with a big showing up against Jose Quintana at Citi Field to take the series to a decider back in Philadelphia.
This is another tight shout, with the Pete Alonso-inspired Mets 20/21 for the Game 4 win and the Phillies 20/23.
AL Division Series Game 3: New York Yankees @ Kansas City Royals Odds (00:08 Thursday)
After their stunning win at Yankee Stadium in Game 2, the Royals turn to Seth Lugo to put the Bronx Bombers under serious pressure in this compelling series.
Clarke Schmidt goes to the mound for the Yankees sporting a 5-5 record this year with a sparkling 2.85 ERA. Aaron Boone’s side also boast, of course, one of the biggest-hitting line-ups ever constructed.
The Yankees are naturally the favourites for Game 3, with Betfred offering 5/6 for the road win. A Royals upset is priced at 1/1.
NL Division Series Game 4: Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Diego Padres Odds (02:08 Thursday)
This series has been completely nuts. When Fernando Tatis stood and watched… and watched… and watched as his crushing two-run homer in the second inning of Game 3 sailed towards the stands, it was hard not to feel like this was the big moment of this NLDS.
But the Dodgers still have life and will look to keep their dream alive in this must-win Game 4, and Dave Roberts will make a late decision on who will start as he gets set to throw everything at the Dodgers’ bid to continue.
Dylan Cease goes for the Padres having been touched up by the Dodgers in Game 1, and San Diego are 4/6 to end LA’s season right here. The Dodgers are 5/4 to send us to a decider.
Padres vs Dodgers: Over 9.5 Total Runs @ 6/4
Tuesday’s Game 3 was proof enough that there are lots of runs in these two batting line-ups.
Throw in the fact the Dodgers might well be patching together a pitching strategy and Cease has already been got at by LA, and this may be a slugfest.
The 6/4 on offer for a double-figure number of runs is on the generous side in my mind, with the 40% probability implied not nearly covering it.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Mets/Yankees/Padres win treble @ 4/1
Momentum is a beast, and with the Mets on a tremendous run over the past 10 days I can see them eliminating the Phillies tonight.
Over at Petco Park there’s a real buzz about the Padres which could well account for the big-name Dodgers if they can deliver another performance like they did in Games 2 and 3.
Meanwhile, over in the AL I just don’t see the Yankees not making it to the World Series at this point, so I like the look of the 4.96/1 odds on offer for a win treble.
I’d go for all four but that Tigers-Guardians game – and series – could truly go either way.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
