MLB Betting Tips: 9/5 bet for Ohtani & Co. to tee off at Coors Field

It was another profitable evening in Major League Baseball on Monday as the Cardinals’ big win over the Cubs came our way. Twenty-four hours on we’re looking to the pitchers to keep the score down.
My MLB Betting Tips for Tuesday naturally include a prediction that Tarik Skubal is going to throw the baseball wherever he wants it.
MLB Betting Tips - Tuesday, June 24
- Tigers vs Athletics: First 5 Innings Handicap – Tigers -1.5 @ 23/20
- Rockies vs Dodgers: Dodgers by 5+ @ 9/5

Tigers vs Athletics: First 5 Innings Handicap – Tigers -1.5 @ 23/20
When Tarik Skubal is pitching, you watch. With an astonishing 9.8 strikeouts-to-walks ratio so far in 2025, the reigning Cy Young Award winner is proving to be the star attraction on the mound in the whole of MLB.
And tonight he goes up against an Athletics team which is struggling to have any sort of say this season despite showing signs of life at least in recent weeks.
The A’s are in the lower third of MLB rankings for runs per game (21st with 4.19), and Skubal has struck out 117 batter in 96 innings with an 8-2 record and 2.06 ERA.
I just don’t see the Athletics getting close to the Detroit Tigers ace at Comerica Park (18:40 local, 23:40 BST), and with the home team’s offence in great shape (fifth in MLB) I can see them getting a decent early lead with Skubal shoving.
There’s some real value in backing the Tigers to have a lead of two or more after five frames at 23/20 and an implied probability of 46.5%.

Rockies vs Dodgers: Dodgers by 5+ @ 9/5
Given the nature of Major League Baseball, it’s not normally a great idea to make predictions relating to a game for which at least one of the teams have not yet named their starting pitcher.
But the Colorado Rockies host the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field tonight (18:40 local, 01:40 BST) and it’s fair to say the whole world is ready to watch Shohei Ohtani make hay in the run-scoring capital of baseball.
The Rockies’ starter, German Marquez, has a 6.11 ERA this season, but remarkably his home average drops to 4.91. That still shouldn’t be enough to hold the Dodgers in the thin Denver air.
With its Statcast Park Factor this season of 113 (MLB average 100), Coors Field continues to spit out high-scoring contests, and with the worst team in baseball going up against the World Series champions, I expect at least two blowouts over the next three nights.
The 9/5 for a Dodgers win of five or more is value enough that I’m undeterred by the potential of Dave Roberts employing a bullpen game.
