Baseball 4

We were up again on Wednesday thanks to the great pitching of Jack Misiorowski, and Thursday gives us nine more Major League Baseball games to get our teeth into.

My MLB Betting Tips for Thursday, include a third dig at the Rockies this week and a return to Comerica Park despite the fact that Tarik Skubal isn’t pitching.

Today’s MLB Odds

Tigers vs Athletics: Tigers by 3+ @ 2/1

If you know anything about me by now it’s that Tarik Skubal will have me racing towards the Detroit Tigers. But even though the reigning Cy Young Award winner is not on the mound tonight I’m coming back for more against the Athletics (13:10 local, 18:10 BST).

It's Deitrich Enns heading to the bump for the Tigers in his first MLB appearance in four years, with AJ Hinch set to conduct a bullpen game.

And looking at what the Tigers relievers have been able to deliver this season, with a combined ERA of 3.74 and just 24 home runs allowed (sixth best in MLB), I’m happy to suggest they’ll be able to hold off an Athletics team sitting 15 games back in the American League West.

The A’s go behind Jeffrey Springs, whose 4.24 ERA is not too shabby for a guy enjoying his longest stretch in the bigs for three years following Tommy John Surgery while with the Tampa Bay Rays.

But the Tigers offence should have too much for the Athletics as they look to bounce back from being shut out on Wednesday night.

This ought to feel a lot more like Tuesday, when they were 11-4 victors, given that Detroit have the fifth-best slugging percentage in baseball, are sixth in OPS and fifth for runs scored.

Betfred are offering 2/1 for the Tigers to win by at least three runs, and I’m happy to back them at that price given its 33.3% implied probability.

Rockies vs Dodgers: Dodgers by 5+ @ 6/4

For the third time in three days, I’m backing the Los Angeles Dodgers to deliver against the Colorado Rockies when they go for the series sweep at Coors Field (13:10 local, 20:10 BST).

The Dodgers are on a three-game winning streak in which they have chalked up 30 runs in total, and they should be too hot for the Rockies to handle once more on getaway day.

The Rox will struggle to get much going against future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, who is getting better and better since his return from the shoulder and toe injuries which decimated his 2024 season and delayed his comeback in early ’25.

He boasts a 3-0 record with a 3.31 ERA, but has posted a 2.20 since giving up five runs in four innings in his first start of the year against the Angels.

Kershaw goes up against fellow lefty Austin Gomber, who has also recently returned from a shoulder issue, but that’s about where the similarities end.

Gomber has a career 4.91 and has started his delayed season with an 8.38 in two starts so far. What the Rockies could do after a couple more heavy defeats is some length out of their starter, but last time out the former St Louis Cardinal gave up nine runs on 12 hits in just 4.2 innings.

I can well see the Dodgers finding their range once more in the hitter-friendly environment at Coors Field, so the 6/4 on the table for them to win by five-plus is a good-looking prospect.
