Lerone Murphy vs Dan Ige Prediction: Heavy going for two top feathers

Ranked featherweights Lerone Murphy and Dan Ige square off this Saturday, October 26 at UFC 308. The pay-per-view takes place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, headlined by Ilia Topuria vs Max Holloway. TNT Sports will televise the event.
Here are my Murphy vs Ige predictions ahead of this featherweight fight.
Mancunian Murphy has done very little wrong in the UFC so far. After a split draw on his debut against Zubaira Tukhugov, ‘The Miracle’ has won six in a row. Interestingly, four of Murphy’s seven UFC outings have come in Abu Dhabi. Despite being a UK fighter, Murphy has only fought twice for the company in his home country along with one bout in Las Vegas.
That means Murphy will be in familiar territory come Saturday. Ige has fought once in the UAE, but there will be a level of comfort for his opponent in his surroundings. Those sort of small margins can often make a difference on fight night.
Both men are aiming to accomplish something that has never been done here. Murphy is looking to become the first man ever to stop Ige. Meanwhile, ‘50K’ goes in with hopes of being the first fighter ever to defeat the Brit. Of course we could get an outcome in which neither event takes place, namely a Murphy decision, but it is a fun line of intrigue running through this fixture.
Ige has acknowledged that this featured bout is a reward for his act of heroism at UFC 303. The 33-year-old stepped in on a few hours’ notice to replace Brian Ortega in the co-main event. He lost to Diego Lopes in the 165lb catchweight bout, but gained a lot of praise from both the company and fans for rescuing the event. Now he gets a big fight with plenty of prep time and a deserved spotlight.
Ige lost in his big gamble, but he took his man the distance in the process. All signs indicate that Murphy will have to do the same if he wants to secure the win here. ‘The Miracle’ has seven knockouts and seven decisions from his 14 wins. Murphy’s last three bouts have all been settled by the scorecards. You have to go back to January 2021 and his second-round TKO of Makwan Amirkhani for his last inside-distance win.
That’s not to say Murphy hasn’t been racking up some big wins. In his last fight he outscored Edson Barboza, an Octagon stalwart taking part in his tenth Fight of the Night. Rarely in a dull match-up, Barboza took everything Murphy could throw. It was a brilliant performance from both men and one the Mancunian thoroughly deserved to win.
Now Murphy steps in with another incredibly durable opponent who will test him. These are the fights that prove your mettle and point towards a possible future. Win and you could go on to contend at the very top. Lose and you bump up against that glass ceiling. Everything to play for in this one.
Odds correct at time of publishing.

Lerone Murphy vs Dan Ige Prediction
I think sometimes a narrative around a fight is so compelling it becomes impossible to resist it. The form guide, histories and skillsets of these men point to a Murphy decision. MMA always has the capacity to surprise, of course. But at 4/5, I like the Murphy points win. Good odds considering the likelihood.
