The world No.1 arrives in Paris riding a 12-match clay-court winning streak after romping to titles in Madrid and Rome.

Swiatek’s main rival on tour, Aryna Sabalenka, appears to be the only player capable of challenging her right now with the draw keeping the top-seeded duo apart until the final.

  • Iga Swiatek to win the title @ 8/13
  • Aryna Sabalenka each-way to win the title (1/2, 2 places) @ 5/1
  • Mirra Andreeva each-way to win the title (1/2, 2 places) @ 40/1

Iga Swiatek to win the title @ 8/13

The draw could have been a little kinder to the reigning champion because she could face four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka as soon as round two.

The Japanese star is gradually working her way back to form after a long break from tennis, but showed some of the old magic was still there with her two wins over top-20 ranked opponents Daria Kasatkina and Marta Kostyuk in Rome.

Swiatek’s next major hurdle could come against Danielle Collins in the quarter-finals. The American, who put a 15-game win streak together earlier this year as she won the Miami Open, clinched her 14th clay-court victory of 2024 this week to go level with Swiatek on the surface.

The Pole has won six of the seven matches they have played and possesses all the tools to make swift work of the 11th seed once more.

The greatest obstacles Swiatek faces in her side of the draw will probably come in the semi-finals when it seems likely that either Coco Gauff or Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia will await her.

Gauff has never been able to take a set off the Pole in four previous meetings, but Haddad Maia battled back from 4-1 down to take the opener against Swiatek in Madrid last month with a terrific display of baseline grinding.

However, the champion dug deep and found a way to turn that match around and there are so few in the women’s game that look capable of stopping her from claiming a fifth Grand Slam title right now.

Aryna Sabalenka each-way to win the title (1/2, 2 places) @ 5/1

Though Swiatek’s straight sets win over Sabalenka in Rome was impressive and emphatic, it was just a warm-up event for the real deal at Roland Garros.

Sabalenka took a set off her when they played a fortnight before that in Madrid, although her rival still won to go 8-3 up in their series.

But there really does not appear to be anyone else around with the big-match mentality and consistency on clay to put Swiatek under serious pressure.

Mirra Andreeva each-way to win the title (1/2, 2 places) @ 40/1

The prodigiously talented Mirra Andreeva could be one to keep an eye on though if she starts reeling off dominant wins in the first week.

The 17-year-old, who is coached by Garbine Muguruza’s old coach and former French Open champion Conchita Martinez, has not progressed beyond the third round in any Grand Slams, but her time is coming.
