Tennis Betting Tips: Three selections from Gstaad and Bastad on Wednesday

It was another underwhelming day on Tuesday as just one of my three tennis selections landed. I'm currently at 2/6 for the week and I want to improve the returns on Wednesday, where my attention returns to ATP Gstaad, as well as Bastad.

Set Betting Casper Ruud to beat Dominic Stricker 2-1 @ 13/5

Casper Ruud returns to action after a month away, following his premature exit at Roland Garros. It was surprising for someone who finds themself at their most comfortable on the clay court, and he will be hoping his return to the surface at Gstaad can help get him back on track.

After a month away from the Tour, the Norwegian is expected to be a bit rusty, and it doesn't help that he is up against an opponent in Dominic Stricker, who got the better of him in their single career meeting to date. This came in Basel in 2023, with the Swiss star progressing in three sets.

I think this rematch will go the distance because even if Ruud doesn't get off to the best start, clay courts allow players to get into a rhythm as the match goes on. He will be determined to bounce back after the events of the French Open, and being back on this surface can help him achieve just that.

Stricker defeated him on a hard court, so you would argue this would be a much tougher test for him on clay. He can put up a fight but I think Ruud will come out on top after three sets.

Match Betting - Juan Manuel Cerundolo to beat David Goffin @ 4/7

A first meeting on Tour awaits Juan Manuel Cerundolo and veteran David Goffin on Wednesday at Gstaad, and neither player had the best of results heading into this week. However, Cerundolo delivered a strong performance in the first round on Tuesday, defeating Jan-Lennard Struff, who impressed at Wimbledon by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Cerundolo also made it to the finals at a Challenger event last week and while it is not at the same level, he is going to have more confidence than his opponent. Goffin looks to be coming towards the end of his career. He exited Wimbledon in the first round and so there are doubts that he will be able to handle three sets on clay against the Argentine.

This match could be wrapped up in straight sets or Goffin's experience can ensure the clash goes the distance. Either way, I believe Cerundolo comes out of it as the victor.

Set Betting - Tallon Griekspoor to beat Andrea Pellegrino 2-0 @ 7/10

Over at Bastad, Italian Andrea Pellegrino ended an almost five-year wait for an ATP Tour win as he defeated Jaime Faria in three sets on Tuesday in the first round. That victory would have felt like a huge weight off his shoulders but I don't think the joy will last too long.

He faces Tallon Griekspoor in the next round, who has been in clinical form of late. Pellegrino can be a smooth operator when he gets into a rhythm, but it is difficult to see him matching his opponent given the way the Dutchman is playing right now.

Griekspoor's service game and strong forehands will cause a lot of problems for Pellegrino and I think this could end up being a very quick contest. I have Griekspoor to get the job done in straight sets.
