Tennis Betting Tips: Three bets to follow from ATP Montreal

The action is heating up in Canada with the second round of ATP Montreal getting underway today, and plenty of big names are in action.
My tennis betting tips for Thursday will focus on the action from North America as players continue their preparations for the upcoming US Open.
Tennis Betting Tips - Thursday, August 8
Set Betting - Daniil Medvedev to beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 2-0 @ 4/7
This has been a year to forget for Alejandro Davidovich Fokina so far, as the former world number 21 has dropped out of the world top 40 in the rankings, and came into the tournament in Montreal with a record of 13-15.
The Spaniard enjoyed a solid win in the opening round over Roman Safiullin, but facing Daniil Medvedev is a different challenge altogether. The world number five holds a 4-0 head-to-head advantage over Davidovich Fokina, and is well placed for a deep run in Montreal this week.
In addition, Medvedev is a hard-court specialist, reaching several Grand Slam finals on the surface, and claiming the US Open crown back in 2021. The 28-year-old has had a relatively poor season by his standards and will want to go into the this year's tournament at Flushing Meadows at the end of the month full of confidence.
I'm taking Medvedev in straight sets here.
Set Betting - Stefanos Tsitsipas to beat Kei Nishikori 2-0 @ 8/15
Kei Nishikori comes into this this contest having lost three of his last five matches. Last week, he lost in the first round of the Olympics to Britain's Jack Draper, but continues to battle hard to move up in the rankings.
The former world number four has already played in one Masters tournament this season in Miami, where he lost against Sebastian Ofner in the first round. Here in Montreal, Nishikori defeated Alex Michelsen 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in his opening encounter, but I think Stefanos Tsitsipas will be too strong here.
Tsitsipas made the quarter-finals of the Olympics last week where he lost to eventual gold medalist Novak Djokovic, and he's not had any notable results on the hard courts so far this season. However, the 25-year-old has too much quality for Nishikori, who may still be feeling the effects of the three-set grueller against Michelsen.
Set Betting - Jannik Sinner to beat Borna Coric 2-1 @ 3/1
Jannik Sinner's maiden ATP Masters 1000 title came in Canada last year, which kick-started his ascent to world number one.
The Italian is familiar with Thursday's opponent, Borna Coric, as the pair have know each other since they were teenagers training at renowned coach Riccardo Piatti’s academy.
Coric is a dangerous opponent when he's on his game, and he's played well so far in Canada, but that doesn't tell you the entire story of his 2024 season. The Croatian has admitted it has been a struggle for him, especially during the clay-court season, when he tallied a 2-5 record.
A win for Coric could change the course of his season but Sinner is number one in the world for a reason, and although Coric can claim a set off the Italian here, the 22-year-old will see this one out in three sets.
