Tennis Betting Tips: Bublik to defeat compatriot Shevchenko

It was a poor day at the office on Wednesday as none of my three tennis selections landed. I turn to Thursday's actions hoping to get back to some form of success.

I've gone for a less risky approach this time around, solely focusing on match results rather than sets in particular. Check out my Tennis Betting Tips below, which once again come from the ATP events at Bastad and Gstaad.

Match Betting - Nuno Borges to beat Filip Misolic @ 8/11

Nuno Borges will continue the defence of his crown at the Swedish Open in Bastad on Thursday when he faces Filip Misolic. This is the first meeting between the two players and it should make for an interesting contest.

Borges will have picked up a lot of followers here after his triumph last year, so he's likely to have the crowd's backing, which may have an impact on proceedings. He's had more consistency on court than his opponent this season and being back in an environment that has produced success gives him the edge in this clash.

Misolic impressed in qualifying and has looked sharp in the main draw so far, so he can cause the Portuguese star some problems. Borges has also not had much joy on clay this season as he would have liked, but being back at Bastad may help him return to the levels he reached in 2024.

I think Borges will have enough in his locker to progress to the next round, but Misolic might push him all the way.

Match Betting - Alexander Bublik to beat Alexander Shevchenko @ 4/7

Over in Gstaad, there is an all-Kazakh affair as Alexander Shevchenko and Alexander Bublik collide for their second career meeting. Bublik was the victor on that occasion in the quarter-finals of the Montpellier Open in 2024.

Bublik enjoyed one of the most impressive weeks of his career as he defeated world number one and the newly-crowned Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, as well as one-time Grand Slam winner Daniil Medvedev, to claim the Halle Open for a second time in June.

His Wimbledon campaign did not go to plan as he crashed out in the first round, despite serving for the match against Jaume Munar at one point. He will relish being back on clay, having become the first Kazakhstani male player to reach the quarter-finals of a major, thanks to his fine displays at Roland Garros.

Shevchenko knows this will be a tough test for him, but he handled himself well against veteran Stan Wawrinka in the last round in Gstaad, but it is his form before that which is concerning - having lost three on the bounce.

I'm backing Bublik to defeat his compatriot again.

Match Betting - Hugo Gaston to beat Damir Dzumhur @ 6/5

Back at Bastad, Hugo Gaston and Damir Dzumhur meet for the first time. Gaston advanced into the last 16 after defeating Chun-Hsin Tseng in straight sets.

Gaston nabbed an early break in set one which proved to be the difference, before going on to largely dominate the second. The Frenchman was very productive when it came to taking his break point opportunities, converting four out of the five available.

Dzumhur brings plenty of experience with him and he is aided by a return to clay, a surface which has served him well in the past. The Bosnian ended a four-game losing streak when beating Sebastian Ofner last time out.

He came from 4-1 down in the second set before he bounced back to win five games on the spin. This looks to be a close contest on paper, and one that will probably end up going the distance. If Gaston starts well, I think he will go on to claim the victory.
