Match Betting - Jasmine Paolini (ITA) to beat Karolina Muchova (CZE) @ 11/8

It's been a brilliant first eight months of the year for 28-year-old Jasmine Paolini, who reached the final of the French Open and Wimbledon - finishing as runner-up in both competitions - before winning a gold medal in the doubles at the Paris 2024 Olympics last month.

The Italian and her partner Sara Errani have already exited the doubles at the ongoing US Open, but Paolini has advanced through three rounds of the Women's Singles to set up a last-16 tie with Karolina Muchova on Monday. Paolini beat Canadian Bianca Andreescu 2-1 and Kazakshtani Yulia Putintseva 2-0 either side of a three-point match against Karolina Pliskova where the Czech player retired early through injury.

Pliskova's compatriot Muchova is next up to face Paolini, and she can take great confidence from their head-to-head record, which is 3-0 in favour of the Czech. The 28-year-old faced the Italian twice in 2018, winning in straight sets at the ITF Women's Tennis Tournament in Manchester before doing the same later in the year at the US Open.

The players haven't faced each other since Muchova triumphed 2-1 at the 2021 Gippsland Trophy in Melbourne, and much, if you'll pardon the pun, has changed.

Paolini's performances at majors were poor heading into 2024; in fact, she held a 4-16 record before this calendar year. However, she has now won 18 matches in slams this year, reaching at least the fourth round in all four events, and beat former US Open champion Andreescu and 30th seed Putintseva en route to reaching this stage of the competition.

Muchova won't be too perturbed given she has won all three US Open matches so far in straight sets, beating American Katie Volynets and Russian Anastasia Potapova either side of two-time champion Naomi Osaka (JPN).

I'm expecting a close contest between Muchova and Paolini on Monday, but I'm backing the latter to pull off a career-first victory over the Czech in her bid to reach a third-straight majors final. The Italian is just in such great form and should be in good condition after her opponent's early retirement in the second round.

Jasmine paolini to beat karolina muchova @ 11-8

Match Betting - Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) to beat Beatriz Haddad Maia (BRA) @ 4/5

Caroline Wozniacki had enjoyed a favourable run to the last 16 of the US Open, beating three players - Nao Hibino (JPN), Renata Zarazua (MEX) and Jessika Ponchet (FRA) - all of whom reside outside the top 90 of the WTA rankings, in straight sets.

The 34-year-old should face stiffer competition on Monday, however, as she faces Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, ranked 21st in the world. Haddad Maia beat Armenian Elina Avanesyan 2-1 in the first round before straight-set successes over Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo and Russian Anna Kalinskaya, saving seven of eight breakpoints against the 15th seed latter.

The 28-year-old's victory over Kalinskaya was all the more impressive considering the fact she had lost seven of her previous eight top-20 meetings.

Wozniacki (71) is no longer a top-20 player but the former world No.1 has pedigree in this competition. The Dane has finished runner-up twice at Flushing Meadows, in 2009 and 2014, but hasn't progressed past the last 16 since reaching the semi-final in 2016.

Nevertheless, Wozniacki's experience should stand her in good stead ahead of her match with Haddad Maia, who she has never faced before. The Brazilian hasn't been overly impressive this year, at least before entering the US Open, and holds a 1-1 record in round-of-16 matches in majors.

Monday's contest may just be a step too far for Haddad Maia.

To Win The Match & Both Players To Win A Set - Jack Draper (GBR) to beat Tomas Machac (CZE) & Yes @ 5/4

Great Britain's last remaining hope in the US Open Men's Singles, 22-year-old Jack Draper, takes on Czech Tomas Machac in the round of 16 on Monday. Draper is yet to drop a set at Flushing Meadows, seeing opponent Zhizhen Chang (CHN) retire four games into their third set in the opening round before 3-0 wins against Argentine Facundo Diaz Acosta and Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp.

It's been similarly plain-sailing for Machac, who has beaten Italian Fabio Fognini, American Sebastian Korda and Belgian David Goffin in straight sets. The 23-year-old now faces a player he has beaten on all three occasions they have met, the most recent of which came at the Geneva Open in Switzerland in May. Machac won 2-0 (7-6, 6-1), requiring a tiebreak in the first set before winning easily in the second.

The two players are yet to take each other on in an outdoor, hard-court setting, however, which should give the Brit some belief that their previous encounters matter little in the grand scheme of things.

Draper (25) is ranked 14 places higher than Machac in the ATP rankings and became only the third British player in the Open Era to make consecutive second-week appearances at the US Open, following in the footsteps of a certain Andy Murry, who won the competition in 2012. Draper lost in four sets to Andrey Rublev in the last 16 in 2023 but won't be facing that level of competition this year, albeit Machac should give him a run for his money.

I think the Czech can certainly win a set or two, but ultimately, Draper has the tools to defeat Machac and book a spot in the quarter-finals.
