Ranking even number six gets underway tomorrow as the players head to Wuhan, China for the second edition of the Wuhan Open.

Last season saw Judd Trump lift the trophy in the first edition of this event beating Ali Carter 10-7 in the final and he is unsurprisingly the favourite to do so again, particularly after the withdrawals of Mark Allen and Ronnie O’Sullivan as well as losing a few big names in qualifying, including Mark Selby. Below you can find a comprehensive preview and Wuhan Open 2024 predictions from Betfred Insights' Snooker expert, Dean Strand (@DSSnookerTips).

Wuhan Open 2024 Betting Tips

  • 0.25pts Each Way - Jordan Brown to win Outright - 200/1
  • 0.25pts Each Way - Ishpreet Chadha to win Outright - 125/1
  • 0.5pts Each Way - Wu Yize to win Outright - 28/1
  • 0.5pts Each Way - Ali Carter to win Outright - 25/1

0.25pts Each Way - Jordan Brown to win Outright - 200/1

The two top seeds in quarter two when this draw was made were Ronnie O’Sullivan and Luca Brecel; Brecel was beaten in qualifying by Duane Jones and O’Sullivan has now withdrawn from the event leaving a huge chance for a lower-ranked player to have a run this week.

Most players in this section of the draw lack consistency and are out of form but there are two outsiders who I like the odds for and the first of these is Jordan Brown.

Brown often struggles to find his best form but when he does he’s capable of going far in events. He won the Welsh Open in 2021, beating Ronnie in the final, and last season went on another great run in the International Championship, beating Gilbert, Kyren, Higgins and Maguire to reach the semi-finals.

Assuming he gets past his local Chinese opponent in qualifying he’ll face Hossein Vafaei, a player he won his only previous meeting against, and odds of 200/1 for him to win this event look a little too big for me.

0.25pts Each Way - Ishpreet Chadha to win Outright - 125/1

Another player I like the odds for in the sections is Ishpreet Singh Chada.

Chadha joined the tour last season after coming through Asian Q School and made a name for himself with wins over McGill, Brecel and Bingham (twice).

This season he’s already got off to a very good start reaching his first-ever semi-final with a superb clearance against Mark Selby in the deciding same of the quarter-finals in the English Open, also beating Jak Jones and Hossein Vafaei earlier in the event.

He followed that up with two comfortable wins in Northern Ireland Open qualifying last week and looks full of confidence at the moment and odds of 125/1 look worth an each-way punt.

0.5pts Each Way - Wu Yize to win Outright - 28/1

In quarter three i’m going for another in-form player and that’s the man that beat Chada in the English Open semi-final, Wu Yize.

Yize has always been a talented youngster with a lot of potential, even impressing as a 15-year-old taking John Higgins to a decider in 2019.

At the age of 20 now he’s finally beginning to show more consistency and his run to the English Open final was superb, beating Carter and Trump along the way. After a slow start to the final - once he grew in confidence - he managed to win five frames in a row against Robertson from 8-2 down and it eventually took a fluke from the Australian to stop him.

Mark Allen's withdrawal opens up this side of the draw for him and he’ll also have good memories at this venue, reaching the semi-finals here last year.

0.5pts Each Way - Ali Carter to win Outright - 25/1

My final pick comes from quarter four and that is Ali Carter.

Carter hasn’t been in great form lately but he has a tendency to start a lot of seasons slowly and he did still win the first ranking event of the season, the Championship League.

Last season he also started slowly but it was this event that he came alive in, finishing runner-up in a 10-7 defeat to Judd Trump in the final.

He went on to have a very consistent season, finishing 10th in the rankings, his highest end-of-season ranking for 13 years.

Carter has a good record in China overall - two of his six ranking event wins have come here - and odds of 25/1 look good to me.
