Only four events are left on the snooker calendar now this season and many players on tour won’t be playing again until the World Championship Qualifying next month.
For the top 32 players of the season though, there is still a lot to play for with potentially three players series events, starting with this week’s World Grand Prix.
The tournament has been moved to Hong Kong this year, which sees a huge boost to the available prize money with last year’s fund of £380,000 rising to £700,000 and the winner receiving a share of £180,000. This is the first ranking tournament to be held in Hong King since 1989!
Another pre-tournament withdrawal from Ronnie O’Sullivan for 'medical reasons' means we won’t be seeing ‘The Rocket’ until Sheffield and Hossein Vafaei is the player to benefit having been ranked 33rd at the seeding cut off point.
1 pt - Kyren Wilson to win Outright @ 7/1
The top two seeds this week are unsurprisingly the world number 1, Judd Trump and World Champion, Kyren Wilson.
These two are without a doubt the two best players in the world at the moment and I think the odds should be a little closer between the two.
Both players have won three tournaments this season and finished runner up in another two, but it’s Kyren who’s edged the head-to-heads, beating Trump in two ranking event finals and more recently in the Masters semi-final.
Trump’s not hit top form yet in 2025 either with early exits in both ranking events, whilst Wilson reached the final of the Masters and won the German Masters.
Kyren has been enjoying the limelight as World Champion and it wouldn’t be a surprise for him to lift another trophy this week.

0.5 pts Pang Junxu each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 40/1
1 pt - Pang Junxu to win Quarter 2 @ 9/1
In quarter 2, I’ll stick with a player I’ve backed a lot this season, Pang Junxu.
His performances have been good all season and again last week he managed three impressive wins to reach the quarter finals, including a dominant 5-0 win over Anthony McGill, before eventually coming up against a flawless performance from eventual winner John Higgins in the last eight.
There are no easy draws in this event but his first round opponent Wu Yize has a tendency to be very inconsistent and hasn’t looked good in his last couple of matches. Pang has won both previous head to heads too.
If he progresses through that one he’ll meet either Mark Williams or Stuart Bingham, who are two more players in poor form. It's just one win in six for Williams and Bingham has won just one frame in his last three matches with back-to-back whitewashes against Un-Nooh and Robbie Williams.

0.25 pts Lei Peifan each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 80/1
0.5 pts - Lei Peifan to win Quarter 3 @ 12/1
Quarter 3 looks the most wide open one to me and at odds of 80/1 I can’t resist an each way punt on Lei Peifan.
Peifan returned to the tour this year winning a two-year card for the third time, despite being just 21 years old, having previously qualified at the ages of 16 and 18.
He pulled off a few shock wins in his first couple of attempts of staying on tour but never really found consistency. This time however he has already pretty much secured his place on tour thanks to winning the Scottish Open earlier this season.
He beat Shaun Murphy, Mark Allen, Tom Ford and Stuart Bingham on the way to the final where he managed a 9-5 win over compatriot Wu Yize.
He definitely still lacks consistency but he’s shown what he can do if he gets a bit of momentum behind him and 80/1 looks a little big for me in the outrights.
