Day 6 of the VPUK Championship on Thursday sees the conclusion of the last 16 with four more matches. Tournament favourite Judd Trump faces a tough match against the experienced John Higgins in the afternoon whilst Stuart Bingham takes on Zhang Anda.
In the evening session World Champion Kyren Wilson will play Chris Wakelin whilst two qualifiers meet on table two, Jak Jones and Michael Holt.
2 pts - John Higgins 50+ Break in Frame 1 vs Judd Trump @ 21/10
Trump and Higgins have been playing each other a lot in recent years and it’s definitely Judd that has dominated the match ups. Since Trump's dominant win over Higgins in the 2019 World Championship final, they’ve met 11 times and incredibly Trump has won 10 of these.
One consistent theme among the matches though, particularly in the last few, has been Higgins making a strong start. In the last seven meetings between the two, Higgins has won the opening frame in six of them, making four 50+ breaks including a century.
Higgins is generally a better starter than Trump in most matches, Trump can often take a while to get going. In yesterday's first round matches, Trump lost a scrappy opener against Neil Robertson, whilst Higgins got off to a flyer making a break of 110 against He Guoqaing.

2 pts - Jak Jones vs Michael Holt No century scored @ 19/10
Holt is the biggest surprise of the tournament so far, having dropped off tour a couple of years ago, but after an impressive season on the amateur circuit last year regained his pro status and has made a solid start on his return to the tour.
He’s been particularly impressive over the last week, beating four very good players to qualify before a very good 6-1 win over Gary Wilson in the first round on Tuesday evening.
Despite his good form, his break building still hasn’t been great - in 138 frames this season he’s only managed four centuries, averaging one every 34 frames and only made two half centuries in his win over Wilson.
I backed No century in Jones’ first round win over Luca Brecel and despite going all the way to a decider, there were still no hundred breaks in the match.
The century count in general was down in the first round and the pockets seem considerably tighter than they have been in recent tournaments. These two have only met twice before and the highest break in those two matches was just 69.

2 pts - Chris Wakelin to beat Kyren Wilson @ 21/10
I opposed Wilson in the first round and despite him winning 6-0 against Maguire, I don’t think he played as well as the scoreline suggests. Maguire had a particularly poor game and Wilson only managed two 50+ Breaks.
Wakelin looks like a different player these days, he’s into the top 16 for the first time and has beaten a lot of top players already this season. Earlier this month in China he managed wins against Murphy, Williams, Higgins and Guodong, before losing out to Ding in the final and he’s also had wins over Ding and Allen this season.
Last time he played Wilson in a ranking event was in the Scottish Open last season and he won that one 4-2.
