Wednesdays action at the VPUK Championship see’s the last 16 matches get underway with some very close match ups.
The afternoon sessions see’s Ronnie O’Sullivans first round conqueror Barry Hawkins take on another qualifier in David Gilbert whilst on table one Ding Junhui and Shaun Murphy meet after coming through their respective first round matches in deciding frames.
In the evening Jack Lisowski looks to build on a brilliant performance and victory over Mark Selby as he plays Ali Carter whilst World Number three Mark Allen takes on surprise first round winner Wu Yize.
2 pts Barry Hawkins vs David Gilbert No century @ 4/1
Hawkins and Gilbert is a very tough match to call, their last two matches have both gone to deciders and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see another close one here.
They have had a couple of high scoring matches in the past but they’ve also had plenty of scrappy ones. Two years ago they played all nine frames in a European Masters last 32 match and there was only one half century in the whole match, a break of 71.
Their only previous best-of-11 match only saw one century too, and that was only a break of 101.
Neither player managed a century in their respective first round wins over Ronnie O’Sullivan and Xiao Guodong.
Hawkins has failed to make a century in five of his last siz matches at this venue and Gilbert has failed to make one in his last four.

2 pts Jack Lisowski -2.5 Hcp vs Ali Carter @ 19/10
After the first 12 matches of this tournament Jack Lisowski’s win over Mark Selby has been by far the standout performance.
Selby looked in very good form, led 3-0 without giving Lisowski a chance and finished the match with a 95% pot success rate but Lisowski played some outstanding snooker to turn it around and win 6-4 with a performance some pundits have called his best ever.
Usually you wouldn’t expect a player to be able to keep up such a high standard but the last time he played at that level was in this same venue wo years ago with dominant wins over Xu Si, Hossein Vafaei and Shaun Murphy, making four centuries against Murphy, it’s clearly a tournament Lisowski enjoys.
Ali Carter has a terrible record in this event in recent years, hasn’t made it past the last 32 stage in 12 years and last year he was beaten 6-3 in the first round to Matthew Selt.
He made it past Ryan Day earlier this week but it wasn’t a high quality match, very scrappy with both player missing plenty of chances.
If Lisowski can get anywhere near the form he showed earlier on Sunday he could dominate this match.

2 pts Wu Yize Highest Break vs Mark Allen @ 7/5
Mark Allen has struggled to hit form this season, in his first round win over Jackson Page his highest break was just 56 and he lost four frames despite Page not having a particularly great game either.
It’s the third time this month he’s failed to make a century in a best-of-11 too, twice losing to Xiao Guodong with high breaks of 50 and 65.
Wu Yize is a quality break builder and has made 17 centuries this season, averaging one every 12 frames.
He’s won this market in 14 out of 24 matches this season (one tie) and he’s not been intimidated against the top players either, making centuries against Kyren, Robertson, Trump and Carter.
He’s only met Allen once before last season, and despite losing 4-1 still made the highest break of the match with a 104.
