Team News
Having seen his side struggle in the first half of their last Currie Cup game against the Sanlam Boland Cavaliers, head coach Pieter Bergh could look to tinker with the starting XV to face Western Province.
Donovan Don scored an impressive hat-trick in that last outing, and the 23-year-old looks set to continue on the wing for Friday’s encounter at Griquas Park.
As for Western Force, no major injuries have been reported since their 40-19 defeat at Ellis Park against the Lions last time out.
They are still looking for their first win of the 2025 Currie Cup campaign, and head coach Labeeb Levy will be hoping for solutions by changing his starting lineup for the trip to Kimberley.
Griquas vs Western Province Odds
Griquas are the favourites to claim the victory on home soil at 2/5, while Western Province are 2/1, or a 33.3% chance, to head back to Cape Town with the win.
A draw on Friday afternoon in Kimberley is currently available at odds of 18/1.
Griquas -8 handicap @ 6/5
After suffering a 49-28 defeat at Mbombela Stadium against the Pumas in the opening round of the Currie Cup, Griquas responded well in Round 2 with a 48-39 comeback win against the Cavaliers.
Trailing 34-19 after a defensively poor first half, Griquas came flying out of the blocks after the break to secure an impressive victory at home.
Griquas have been a tough nut to crack on home soil, winning four of their last five Currie Cup games on their own patch.
Winning all of their last three home games, including a 37-29 victory over Western Province last season, Griquas would fancy their chances against most teams in Kimberley.
Griquas can also look back on an impressive record against Western Province, having won all of the last seven meetings between these sides.
One has to go back all the way to 2020 for the last time Province tasted victory in this fixture with a 34-17 win in Cape Town, while their last win away at Griquas in the Currie Cup was back in 2016.
Given the record in this fixture and the teams' recent form, with Western Province losing their first two games in the Currie Cup this season against the Bulls and the Lions, Griquas should prove too strong in Friday’s contest.
With WP having conceded 88 points in their opening two games of the competition, going with Griquas to cover the modest -8 handicap appeals at odds of 6/5.
