George riley super league trophy

A fascinating clash in West Yorkshire on Friday sees two resurgent sides come head to head as newly-promoted Wakefield Trinity host a Hull FC side who have lost just one of their first four Betfred Super League games this term after a dreadful 2024 (DIY Kitchens Stadium, kick-off 20:00 GMT).

Wakefield are in pretty good nick too, with both sides progressing into the Challenge Cup quarter-finals, and this contest could well prove to be the game of the weekend. Below are my Wakefield Trinity vs Hull FC predictions, the latest team news and full betting odds from Betfred.

Wakefield Trinity vs Hull FC Odds

It will be little more than home advantage that has persuaded the oddsmakers to side with Wakefield on this one given how similar these two's starts have been. Trinity are 4/6 favourites, implying a 60% chance of a home win at Belle Vue, with Hull FC 5/4 for a third away win following their opening-night success at the Catalans Dragons and one-point victory against Huddersfield Giants.

You can get 20/1 about the draw in 80 minutes, which might not be a bad shout considering how many tight matches there have already been in Super League in 2025.

The standard two-way handicap marker is set to 2.5 points in favour of the visitors, with Wakey 5/6 in that scenario and Hull 10/11 with the leg-up.

Team News

Both Wakefield head coach Daryl Powell and Hull boss John Cartwright make four changes to their squads after last weekend's Challenge Cup action.

Trinity seek their first home win of the season but come into the game off the back of victories over Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield. They will be without key men Matty Storton, Max Jowitt and Isaiah Vagana through injury though. Jayden Myers is the fourth man to drop out. Storton is set to miss four months with a knee injury.

Three players do return, namely Josh Griffin, Cameron Scott and Ky Rodwell. In the absence of Jowitt, Josh Rourke is likely to play full-back.

  • Hull won both 2023 Super League meetings, 42-4 at home and 26-6 away
  • Trinity are yet to win at home in 2025 (two losses), while FC have won all four away games in league and cup

Rugby League Odds

Hull FC are without winger Harvey Barron with a hamstring injury, while Will Gardiner, Will Kirby and Callum Kemp also drop out.

There looks like being a first appearance for returning forward Liam Watts, Sam Eseh is also set to play in the pack having been ineligible in the cup, and Ed Chamberlain has been passed fit to return after concussion.

Handicap 3-way Alternative 1: Hull FC -2 @ 6/4

This is a fiendishly difficult game to call, as Wakefield seek their first home win against a side who won at champions Wigan Warriors in the cup a few days ago. That result proved how resilient this Hull side is on the road, having also opened the season with that win in Perpignan.

Trinity are a really well-coached team on their return to the top flight but I fear they will miss Max Jowitt massively. I was leaning slightly towards Hull anyway and the respective team news is enough to convince me to back the away win.

Hull FC won both games between the two sides a couple of years ago, with a 42-4 win at home and a 26-6 victory in this fixture at Belle Vue. I don't think the scoreline will be anything like that extravagant, but I am going with Hull to continue their promising early-season form on the road.

Lewis Martin anytime tryscorer @ 1/1

The hero of Hull's epic Challenge Cup comeback win at Wigan last week, Martin's hat-trick took him to six for the competition and to the top of the Challenge Cup try charts. I see no reason why he won't bring that form into this Super League fixture with his explosive finishing out wide.

Martin was the club's top try scorer last season and is racing away to defend that title, with hat-tricks in both rounds of the Challenge Cup so far and a try in each of his last three Super League games.
