Tigers knights

A pair of sides more used to battling it out at the bottom of the NRL Premiership engage in a top-three clash on Sunday when Wests Tigers face the Newcastle Knights in Campbelltown (16:05 local, 07:05 BST, Watch NRL).

The Tigers were second and the Knights third coming into Round 6, and the winners of this one will draw level with the once-runaway Panthers at the head of the pack. Here are my Tigers vs Knights predictions, the latest team news and match odds from Betfred.

Tigers vs Knights Odds

The Tigers just about get the nod from the bookies here. Betfred have them as 4/6 favourites, implying a 60% probability of Wests pulling clear of their visitors on the ladder.

Newcastle are 13/10 to win a sixth meeting out of 12 at Campbelltown, with the draw 18/1.

Wests give up 3.5 points on the two-way handicap, with their price lengthened to 5/6 in return. Knights are 10/11 to use the advantage.

Team News

Benji Marshall has to go without Luke Laulilii after the winger was suspended for a dangerous tackle against the Eels last Monday which resulted in a controversial sin-binning.

Jeral Skelton’s inclusion in Laulilii’s stead is Marshall’s only change to a winning team, although Patrick Herbert comes in to the matchday 19 as a sub.

Rugby League Odds

Bradman Best is still out of the Knights’ reckoning with a groin strain, so rookie Wilson De Courcey keeps his place in the outside-backs.

Given Newcastle’s great rhythm so far, former St Helens and Gold Coast boss Justin Holbrook keeps the same 17 that beat the Raiders over Easter.

Knights to win @ 13/10

I’ve got to take my hat off to Wests and Marshall. The Whakatane-born coach has really turned the Tigers’ fortunes around to begin 2026, with the two-point win over the Eels in a Round 5 humdinger the latest evidence of their progress.

But I’ve seen something pretty exceptional in the Knights thus far. For a start, they’ve won one game more than the Tigers due to their trip to Vegas while Wests were benefitting from a Round 1 bye.

Moreover, Holbrook has them working brilliantly as a unit. Sure, Dom Young and Greg Marzhew are gaining plaudits for their finishing with 13 tries between them (eight and five respectively). But the truth is, this is a squad playing out their coach’s gameplan to perfection.

He did similar at St Helens and showed real promise of doing the same with the Titans. In his first two seasons at Cbus he took them to their only two finishes higher than fourth-bottom in the last nine years (ninth and eighth).

Now with Newcastle, the 50-year-old is already being spoken of as an early candidate for Coach of the Year. And given his team’s mix of guile, force, skill and breathtaking speed, there’s every reason to believe they can record a fifth win here.

Double Result: Knights-Knights @ 21/10

If Newcastle are to win this, I can see them needing to get a lead early on.

Just as they managed against the Bulldogs, when they took a 16-0 advantage and then picked off Canterbury as they attempted to stretch the game, I can see them riding off the back of their pack to decent effect in the opening exchanges.

Should they get a reasonable edge, you have to back them to hold onto it given the way they’ve seen off the Cowboys, Sea Eagles, Bulldogs and Raiders already.

That heavy loss to the Warriors when they were left chasing things in the second half following Fletcher Hunt’s untimely sin-binning looks more and more like a significant outlier with each passing game.
