Wigan Warriors vs Leigh Leopards Prediction: Two-try Jai to cross again in Warriors win

Wigan Warriors bid to make it a perfect three wins from three at the start of the 2026 Betfred Super League season when the seven-time champions welcome a Leigh Leopards side who were handed their first defeat of the year by St Helens last week (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Action).
Wigan made a mockery of the handicap in storming to a 34-6 win over Hull FC last time out and are firm favourites to grab another victory in the Battle of the Borough at the Brick Community Stadium. Below are my Wigan Warriors vs Leigh Leopards predictions, along with full team news and Betfred's match odds.

Team News
Wigan boss Matty Peet makes just one change to his initial 21-man squad this week. And that change is unlikely to affect the matchday 17, as one academy prospect, Kian McDermott, is replaced by another in Lukas Mason.
Centre Adam Keighran is free to play despite more issues with the disciplinary panel this week. The Aussie received a charge for the second straight game but has again escaped a ban, which could have caused Wigan a problem with fellow starting centre Jake Wardle already missing through injury.
Peet must decide whether to use Liam Farrell out of position again in Wardle's absence, or turn to youngster Dayon Sambou.
Still out are Abbas Miski (hamstring) and long-term casualty Oliver Wilson (Achilles).
Leopards boss Adrian Lam also makes one change, with former Wigan youngster Ryan Brown added to the squad and Australian forward Aaron Pene dropping out.
It will be interesting to see whether star outside back Umyla Hanley features this week. He was named in Round 2 but was not used following his recovery from a shoulder injury. Frankie Halton is also named again despite not making the matchday squad last week.
Wigan Warriors vs Leigh Leopards Odds
The Warriors are big favourites for this one despite Leigh being well backed to challenge for some silverware again in 2026.
Wigan are priced at 1/3 for the win by Betfred, with the visitors 5/2 to upset the applecart. That's a 28.6% implied probability of an away victory.
The draw is an 18/1 shot, while Peet's side give up a 9.5-point start on the two-way handicap. In that setting, Wigan are 5/6, with Leigh 10/11 to make the most of the extra edge.
Handicap 3-way: Wigan -10 @ 21/20
Wigan are looking really good early on and this looks like a devilishly difficult short trip for Leigh.
Back-to-back wins at Castleford and Hull FC underline that the Warriors mean business this year as they bid to wrestle back the title they lost to Hull KR, and I anticipate another big display this week.
Leigh won a historic clash at Wigan at the start of last season in that epic 1-0 encounter, with Peet's men gaining revenge later down the line in the play-offs, and I think Wigan will again have too much for Lam's side here.
I was so impressed by the Warriors last week - remember, I was looking at Wigan by 1-12 points over Hull FC, with the handicap at 14, and it was ultimately cruise control as Jai Field showed his class in a 28-point stroll - double our handicap.
Hull didn't offer too much, but Leigh should do. They were unfortunate to lose by just two points in a cracker at St Helens, and also beat Leeds Rhinos in their opener. So if both sides come to play, this one will be well worth a watch.
I actually think it suits Wigan to be quietly going about their business this year, as Hull KR take the limelight with their epic World Club Challenge win last week and trip to Las Vegas to play the Rhinos this weekend. In the meantime the Warriors can just knock off the wins.
I'm going for Wigan to make it three wins from three and I think they can beat the handicap again too.

Jai Field Anytime Tryscorer @ 11/10
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Despite opening the season with a blank at Castleford, I kept faith with star full-back Jai Field last week and he duly obliged by running in two tries in the anytime scorer market.
As I stated seven days ago, he is unlikely to go on too long a barren run and once he finds form he tends to turn it into a purple patch.
Two tries in two games and 11/10 to cross during the game this week, I'm on Field again to light up the Battle of the Borough.
We are doing Betfred Super League Double Delight for this game don't forget, so if you fancy Field to score first and he goes on to grab another double, then look forward to that 7/1 first tryscorer price being doubled.
Leigh need Umyla Hanley fit in my opinion if they are to win games like this later on in the campaign, and if he is given the green light here then I quite like 5/2 about Hanley opening his account for the campaign.
