The Betfred Super League weekend kicks off at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on Thursday night with a fascinating clash in West Yorkshire between two teams with just one win in three at the start of the season as Wakefield Trinity host Hull FC (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports+).

The Black and Whites were the latest team to suffer a shock defeat to new boys York Knights last week, while Wakefield were well beaten at Warrington. I'll be taking that into account in my Wakefield Trinity vs Hull FC predictions, which follow below with full team news and Betfred's match odds.

Team News

Both teams are desperate for a victory - even this early in the campaign - and the two head coaches make changes this week.

Trinity boss Daryl Powell has half-back Mason Lino back in the squad after a minor injury, with Tray Lolesio also included. The men to make way are Tyson Smoothy, who observes concussion protocols after a head injury last week, and Jordan Williams.

Wingers Lachlan Walmsley and Tom Johnstone are again both missing - Oli Pratt and Jayden Myers played there last week in the defeat at Warrington and both crossed for tries as we tipped in this column, so well done to backers who went there at 7/4 and 6/4 respectively.

I felt Jack Sinfield did a decent job in the halves at the Halliwell Jones too, so it will be interesting to see where Lino slots back in.

As for Hull FC, it has been a difficult start to 2026 with some key men missing and the results yet to fill fans with hope.

And there are three more changes made by boss John Cartwright this week, all three of them enforced.

Harvey Barron has an ankle injury and Jed Cartwright, who has had a wretched run of injuries, now has a hamstring issue. Both miss out this week pending scans. Liam Knight was released from his contract this week and he is the third man to drop out.

Back in the mix, though, is Ligi Sao after serving his suspension, so he will slot straight back into the pack. And Logan Moy is named with James Bell, the latter poised for his first Betfred Super League appearance in the black and white.

The injury list is lengthy at Hull, as it was last season. Key men missing are Will Pryce (ACL), Herman Ese'ese (Achilles), Joe Batchelor (calf), Ryan Westerman (foot) and Roman Dawson (knee).

Wakefield Trinity vs Hull FC Odds

Trinity are given the benefit of the doubt by the bookies for this one. Betfred have them priced at 1/2 for the win, with Hull's 9/5 implying a 35.7% probability of the Airlie Birds taking the two points east. The draw is a relatively narrow 14/1.

Wakey give up a 6.5-point start in the two-way handicap market, with the home side 10/11 and FC 5/6 in that scenario.

Wakefield Trinity by 1-12 points @ 15/8

We tipped Wakefield to lose by 14 at Warrington last week and were pretty much bang on as Trinity showed some resolve to lose by 11 points at the Halliwell Jones. This week is a game that Powell will feel his side should win.

We certainly did not back Hull FC to lose at home to newly-promoted York, and the manner of their shock 17-16 defeat will have concerned their fans. The home side seemed in control and led 10-6. But credit the Knights, who have now beaten both Hull sides in an incredible start to their first ever season in the top flight. In truth, I still felt Hull would win the game, even in awful conditions after half-time, but the sin-binning of Jed Cartwright allowed York a foothold which they seized.

Lewis Martin justified our backing with a late try but it was in vain so there has to be a Hull response this week after back-to-back defeats, coach Cartwright will expect nothing less. But Wakefield on their own patch are a stubborn beast and I am siding with Trinity to grab their second win of the campaign.

There have been some hugely unpredictable scorelines so far this season and this feels like another that could swing either way. But Wakefield have both home advantage and a less impactful injury list, which leads me to side with Powell's men by a suitably narrow margin this week.

Hull FC +18.5 & Jayden Myers to Score a Try @ 5/4

For my second selection this week I am going to trust the Trinity outside backs to enjoy more success. I liked the odds of both Myers and Pratt last week - which were tempting given the tricky nature of the away fixture at Warrington. It is not quite so generous of course this week in a home fixture that Trinity are favourites to win, but I do feel that is where they can continue to have joy.

Myers and Pratt are both 1/1 in the anytime market this week, as is Martin who should now go on a scoring run having opened his account at the third time of asking last week.

Those three would be my top picks in the anytime scorer market. We are also running our Super League Double Delight offer for this game, so if your selection in the First Tryscorer market goes on to score again then we will double your odds!

Myers, Martin and Pratt are all 7/1 to score first so that could yield 14/1 should either player go on to bag a double.

I'm going to have a bit more fun with this one though and combine the punt with a start for the visitors, with a Myers try combined with Hull FC on an 18.5-point start available at 5/4.
