Wakefield Trinity vs Castleford Tigers Odds

Trinity are huge favourites despite that Cas success last time out. Wakey are 1/6 with Betfred for the 80-minute win, with their bitter rivals 9/2. It's a 22/1 shot that this one goes to golden-point extra-time.

Team News

Cas travel with renewed hope after that sensational win at home to Leeds last week, recovering from 16 points down for a thrilling late victory, in which winger Jason Qareqare was again the star.

The Tigers make just the one change, with veteran Joe Westerman dropping out and no replacement added - so at the time of writing Cas will run with just a 20-man squad.

Wakefield make one change and bring the versatile Max Jowitt back into the squad. Prop Jordan Williams is the man to make way.

Half-backs Jack Sinfield and Mason Lino are both still out, with Trinity using youngster Myles Lawford in the halves last week alongside Jake Trueman. There is still no Oli Pratt.

Looking at the squads, the two matchday 17s should be pretty similar to those fielded by both clubs in victory last weekend.

Handicap 3-Way Wakefield -16  @ 20/21

"You will not find me betting against Wakefield right now" was the call last week, and we were bang on in last week's Trinity win at Bradford Bulls.

A 26-12 victory came after we tipped Trinity with the -14 handicap (!) while the Pick Your Punt double on a Tom Johnstone try and Wakefield beating an 8.5-point start did land at a nice 23/20.

However, that shock Tigers win at Leeds made a mockery of mine and many others' tips in that one, as Leeds looked well on course to landing the predicted hefty win before blowing a 16-point lead, and it also looks like Chris Hankinson's red-hot scoring run is over for now too.

Credit Cas though, that was a brilliant performance to win that game, and the man we keep mentioning - Qareqare - cannot stop scoring. That's 16 for the season now.

So that unexpected Cas performance perhaps makes this derby a little trickier to tip than it originally looked. If they can do that against Leeds, then they can have a good go at Wakefield too.

But my instinct is that Wakey will be okay. They are tough to beat with that home crowd behind them, and are flying on the pitch, A top-four finish looks a real chance now, perhaps even higher. It's five wins in a row since that big home defeat by Wigan, and there were three victories on the spin before that - eight wins therefore in the last nine, form which does not persuade you to back against them at home to 10th-placed Cas.

So it's a Trinity win for me. The handicap is 16, which feels a little hefty given what Cas produced against Leeds. However, both meetings this season have indeed been walloping Wakey wins - 48-6 at Magic Weekend earlier this month and 34-0 at The Jungle in April. It might pay to back Wakefield doing it again rather than going against them on the basis of one crazy game last week.
