Saints continued their winning run with a tough 18-12 win at home to Wakefield, and remain joint-top of the league with the Leeds Rhinos.

It was definitely a game of two halves for Paul Rowley to endure, with his side 16-0 up at half-time.

Youngster Jake Davies continues to impress and it was him who got the scoreboard moving after 12 minutes. A short ball at the line from Jackson Hastings saw the backrower power over Jack Sinfield for his third try in as many weeks.

Five minutes later, great vision from the returning Jonnie Lomax picked up Kyle Feldt stood out in space. He picked up from dummy-half, and through a long, looping pass to the Aussie who scored a trademark try in the corner. Both tries converted by Hastings. 12-0 Saints.

Tristan Sailor continues to impress with his dynamic running game, and was his try that put the home side 16-0 up at the break.

Three tries in the first half, but possibly the most impressive action was from the big man Alex Walmsley, who chased and caught Wakey winger Oliver Pratt who was racing downfield.

However, the second 40 minutes wasn’t a pretty picture for Saints.

They could have been further ahead having crossed the whitewash via George Delaney only to have this ruled out for double movement.

To make matters worse, it was the visitors who got their way back into the game two minutes later. Some poor goal-line defence from Sailor and Daryl Clark saw former Brisbane Bronco Tyson Smoothy crash over next to the posts.

Hastings kicked a penalty, 18-6 to Saints meaning Wakefield had to score three times. It wasn’t too long before they score their second, however.

Big back-rower Caius Faatili picked a great line on the inside shoulder of Jackson Hastings and ran through the half-back to put Trinity very much back into this game.

Despite having pretty much all the possession and field position in the second 40, Wakefield couldn’t post any more points, and it was two huge Betfred Super League points for the home side.

Next for Saints it’s back to the BrewDog stadium for the visit of Super League new boys, York Knights.

The Knights have certainly done themselves proud so far this season, currently sat 10th in the table. But, I think injuries and lack of strength in depth are really taking their toll on Mark Applegarth’s team.

I can’t see past a convincing Saints win on Friday. I’ll go Saints by 16-20 points.

One guy who will no doubt get a rousing reception from the Saints faithful on Friday, is the returning Good Friday hero, Bill Leyland! Leyland returns on another short term loan period from Hull KR.

The St Helens vs York Knights Odds are currently as follows: Saints are massive favourites at 1/80, the draw is 40/1 and York are 14/1.
