Leigh leeds

Many are tipping Leeds Rhinos for success in 2026, but Brad Arthur's men have a tough start to their Betfred Super League campaign with a visit to the Progress With Unity Stadium to face Leigh Leopards. (20:00 GMT, live on Sky Sports+)

Leeds had high hopes last season too, but their barely-believable last-second defeat to St Helens in the play-offs should ensure maximum hunger heading into the new campaign. Read on for my Leigh Leopards vs Leeds Rhinos predictions.

Team News

The Rhinos suffered a scare at Widnes in the Betfred Challenge Cup last weekend, and suffered an injury setback to one of their key men too.

England international prop Mikolaj Oledzki is out with a rib injury, with key forward Cameron Smith also picking up a groin issue in the same game which delays the start of his season.

If that wasn't enough bad news, reigning Steve Prescott Man of Steel Jake Connor picked up a knee injury in training, while captain Ash Handley and prop Keenan Palasia are also out. Long-term injury absentee Maiko Sivo has been out for 13 months, while youngster Alfie Edgell and new boy Jeremiah Mata'utia are also out.

So there will be a start for teenage half-back George Brown, who played full-back last week, and a return for utility Chris Hankinson after a broken nose. James McDonnell also makes the squad just three weeks after suffering an ankle injury.

Leigh remain without one of their star players too. Lightning full-back David Armstrong has had dreadful luck with injuries, and a setback in his rehabilitation from an ACL problem means we won't see his twinkle toes until April at the earliest.

Dream Team centre Umyla Hanley is doubtful after picking up a knock in the pre-season game with Warrington Wolves, though both Joe Ofahengaue and Liam Horne hope to be cleared to resume after head injuries.

Definitely out are Aaron Pene, Isaac Liu and Matty Davis. so these two heavyweight sides are both a little bit patched up to open their campaigns.

Leigh Leopards vs Leeds Rhinos Odds

Leigh have the slight edge according to title sponsors Betfred. The Leopards are priced at 8/13 for the win, with Leeds 6/4.

The draw is 14/1, while Leigh give up a 3.5-point start on the standard two-way handicap market. They're 4/5 in that context, with the Rhinos 1/1 to make the most of the advantage.

Handicap 3-way Leigh Leopards -4 @ 1/1

I fancy Leeds to have a stronger season than the Leopards, but am not liking the injury list one bit ahead of this tricky away fixture. Leigh fans may well fear the same given their long list of absentees so this is a fiendishly difficult one to call.

I feel like if Leigh get the start then they may be hard for Leeds to reel in, but this well-drilled Rhinos side could manage the game from the front with a strong opening of their own.

Leeds have a four-point start on the handicap, which feels about right, and I am finding myself siding with the home team despite the last four regular season games between these sides all ending in Rhinos victories.

Three of those four wins were by single digits though, so you would expect this one to be tight either way.

Leeds without Connor are a different beast so there will need to be a big night for full-back Lachie Miller - one of my picks to star this campaign.

I think if Leigh's playmaker Lachlan Lam is on song then the Leopards win. He has set up seven tries in his last six games against Leeds. So, for me, Lam holds the key to this one.

I'm taking Leigh to sneak it.

Lachie Miller Anytime Tryscorer @ 13/8

Lachie Miller started late last season after injury but quickly became one of the most devastating line-breakers in the British game.

I have high hopes for the former sevens star this year and an injury-free Miller could propel the Rhinos to the next level.

In the absence of Connor, Miller will have to try to make something happen for Leeds. And if the Rhinos are to enjoy success then you can bet that the Australian will be at the heart of it.
