Sharks roosters

The NRL’s big day trip to Perth on Saturday culminates with a spellbinding fixture between the Cronulla Sharks and Sydney Roosters at Optus Stadium (15:30 local, 08:30 BST, Sky Sports Action).

Craig Fitzgibbon’s Sharks have been free-scoring for much of this term, while the Roosters have been the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde over their opening four games. My Sharks vs Roosters predictions are below, with all the latest team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Sharks vs Roosters Betting Tips

  • Sharks by 1-12 @ 5/2

Sharks vs Roosters Odds

The top-eight Sharks are actually odds-against for the win, with Betfred offering 21/20 about a Cronulla victory at an implied probability of 48.8%.

The Roosters can be backed at 5/6, with the draw 16/1.

Betfred have laid the two-way handicap marker at 1.5 points, with the Sharks receiving the head-start. They are 10/11 with the edge, and the Roosters 5/6 to make the most of the boost.

Team News

Tom Hazelton is facing a race against time to be fit after picking up an ankle injury. He’s initially named among the substitutes, but Fitzgibbon is likely to keep checking his availability until kick-off.

Centre Jesse Ramien is definitely out with a knee problem, with Mawene Hiroti getting the call to replace him.

Rugby League Odds

It’s largely good news for Trent Robinson, who welcomes back Spener Leniu and Egan Butcher after injury, plus Victor Radley following a disciplinary issue which threatened his Roosters career.

However, Billy Smith is missing with a knee problem so Hugo Savala comes in in the outside-backs.

Sharks by 1-12 @ 5/2

This is almost a toss-of-the-coin affair given how close it should be.

I love the look of the Sharks on their better days, but similarly they are unwatchable in their worst outings.

Looking at the Roosters’ results so far, they are pretty unbackable since they have gone from a 24-point loss to eight-point win, to a defeat by 36 then a victory by 17.

Who knows what Easts will throw up next?

I feel more able to get behind Cronulla, but not by much. So the 1-12 margin is forgiving enough and at 5/2 there’s a generous price attached to it.

Double Result: Roosters-Sharks @ 15/2

As you can see from the two sides’ results so far, this could be a reasonably high-scoring game. It may well be topsy-turvy too.

So I’m going to have a bit of a punt at this one, since I think it could go one way and then the other over the course of the 80 minutes.

It’s 15/2 for the Roosters to blow a half-time lead and the Sharks to come out on top, and that’s tempting enough for me to have a go at it.
