Raiders storm

How last season’s top two NRL Premiership clubs have come to collide on Friday in a 15th-versus-13th match-up is anyone’s guess. But that is the reality when the Canberra Raiders host the Melbourne Storm at GIO Stadium (18:00 local, 09:00 BST, Sky Sports Main Event).

The Storm are on a monumental four-game skid, while the Raiders finally ended a similar run with a narrow win over Souths in Perth last Saturday. My Raiders vs Storm predictions follow with the latest team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Raiders vs Storm Odds

There are some interesting prices available on this clash, with the malaise of the two sides leaving the bookies with no clear favourite. Still, the Storm are 8/11 for the win at an implied probability of 57.9%.

You can back the Raiders are 6/5 for a second straight victory, while it’s 16/1 to be locked up at full-time ahead of golden-point extra-time.

Will Warbrick is the favourite to cross for the first try, with the six-try Melbourne winger available at 13/2, ahead of full-back and top scorer Sua Fa’alogo (eight tries) at 7/1.

Team News

Ricky Stuart makes one notable change which saw off the Rabbitohs in a high-scoring Round 6 thriller.

Savelio Tamale is out, with Seb Kris taking his place and Matt Timoko returning in the centres after four games out.

Elsewhere, Ata Mariota, Morgan Smithies and Zac Hosking are benched, with Noah Martin, Corey Horsburgh and Josh Papali’i restored to the starting pack in their places.

Rugby League Odds

Craig Bellamy has looked like a very unhappy man in cutaways to the coaching box in recent weeks, but he makes just the one change to the side well beaten by the Warriors last time out.

Manaia Waitere comes in on the wing for the start in the number five jersey. He replaces Moses Leo, who had returned for the 38-14 loss having missed the 50-10 reverse to the Panthers in Round 5.

Raiders by 1-12 @ 5/2

This isn’t a particularly easy one to call, and after a pretty positive start to 2026 I’m coming off a chastening Round 6 as the Storm let me down and the Raiders surprised me.

Having seen Melbourne go down so meekly to the Warriors, most notably after getting ahead 14-12 shortly before the break, I just don’t see the same battle about this iteration of the Storm.

There’s a sense of needing to ride this one out – pun not intended. But the truth is, I just can’t get on board with the footy I’m seeing out of Melbourne just now.

So I can well see the Green Machine building on that epic win over the Rabbitohs in their trip to the west, especially with Sticky freshening up his pack options and bringing back big guns like Papali’i and Horsburgh from the off for early impact.

The 1-12 margin gives us real value at 5/2 and an implied 28.6% chance.

Harry Grant Anytime Tryscorer @ 9/4

While I have given up expecting Storm victories, the nature of the new-look NRL with its quicker rucks and higher-scoring clashes mean I do believe they will carry an attacking threat.

This may well be anecdotal, but there’s a definite feeling that tries up the middle are easier to come by this season. Big packs are tiring more noticeably with the ruck speed increasing.

This is music to the ears of the better dummy-halves in the league, and Harry Grant is probably the best of the lot from behind the play-the-ball. Add in the fact the Raiders don’t have the most notoriously durable defensive packs, and there could be success here for the Kangaroos nine.

He’s already scored three tries this season, and I am more than willing to jump on the value price of 9/4 for him to cross for a fourth. Whether it’s in a winning effort is a very different question.
