Rabbitohs vs dolphins

Friday’s action in the NRL’s annual Magic Weekend closes when Wayne Bennett pits his South Sydney Rabbitohs against his former club, the Dolphins (20:05 local, 11:05 BST, Sky Sports Action).

The Bunnies are riding high in the top four, while the Fins have posted back-to-back wins and are now on the verge of the play-off spots. Here are my Rabbitohs vs Dolphins predictions, full team news and the latest match odds from Betfred.

Rabbitohs vs Dolphins Odds

Having followed two very narrow defeats with back-to-back convincing wins, the Dolphins are Betfred’s favourite to come out on top on Friday.

Kristian Woolf’s side are 4/5 to be triumphant in 80 minutes, with the Rabbitohs 11/10. The draw is a 16/1 pick.

Dolphins flyer Jamayne Isaako is 7/1 to add to his nine tries so far this season with the opening four-pointer of the match.

Team News

Latrell Mitchell’s return from back trouble is the big news for the Rabbitohs, but it is offset by the absence of record tryscorer Alex Johnston with a knee injury.

Bayleigh Bentley-Hape comes in on the wing, while Latrell Siegwalt drops to the bench to allow Mitchell to start.

Rugby League Odds

Woolf names the same initial 17 for the Dolphins after putting 44 points past the Bulldogs eight days back.

Brad Schneider and Oryn Keeley are the extra names on the bench to fill up the matchday 19.

Rabbitohs by 1-12 @ 5/2

The Dolphins might have registered a couple of sizeable wins in the last two weeks, but the Bunnies have come two tries short of a potential seven-game untouchable streak.

They were edged out 36-34 by the Raiders in Perth in Round 6, and then lost by four in an 80-point barnstormer against the Knights five weeks later.

Other than those two games, they have beaten everybody since their 26-18 defeat to the Roosters on Johnston’s big night back in Round 2. So they are in every game at the very least.

That’s part of the reason I can’t back against them, and I also would expect the wily Bennett to find a way to win more often than not.

Up against a Dolphins side who are still trying to prove themselves as a defensive force, I think the likes of Mitchell, Campbell Graham, Cody Walker and Cam Murray get them over the line in key moments.

That 5/2 looks sizeable given how much Souths have competed this term.

Jack Bostock Anytime Tryscorer @ 6/5

One thing the Dolphins definitely do have is strike weapons, with Isaako, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jake Averillo and Selwyn Cobbo among those to rack up tries at a decent rate.

I’m looking beyond those four, though. Jack Bostock has stepped in over the last couple of weeks and immediately caused trouble for the opposition.

He struck twice against the Storm and then crossed once more in the massive win over the Bulldogs. And I’m backing him to keep that run going with another try on Friday.

He’s a 6/5 pick, which I’m putting down to traders considering his great form so far to be a small sample size. But with his finishing quality, I’m willing to take on the 45.5% implied probability.
