Panthers vs dragons

The NRL’s Magic Round closes on Sunday with what ought to be the most one-sided contest of the weekend at Suncorp Stadium when top meets bottom in Penrith Panthers vs St George Illawarra Dragons (18:25 local, 09:25 BST, Sky Sports Action).

The Panthers are 9-1 so far in 2026, but St George are yet to win a game and have continued to struggle under interim boss Dean Young. My Panthers vs Dragons predictions are below, with the latest team news and match odds from Betfred.

Panthers vs Dragons Betting Tips

Panthers vs Dragons Odds

The outright market is barely worth a look given the potential cakewalk ahead of us. Penrith are 1/50 for the win, with the Dragons 12/1 and a draw priced at 40/1.

The two-way handicap is set at 26.5 points, with the Dragons 5/6 to make the most of the five-score advantage and the Panthers 10/11 to overcome the gap.

Sixteen-try Thomas Jenkins is the favourite to register the first try of the game at 5/1.

Team News

Ivan Cleary has very rarely made changes this season unless it has been absolutely necessary, to the point that the Panthers have 13 ever-presents still going into Round 11.

The four-time Grand Final-winning coach opts for minimal alterations again, with Jack Cogger back from suspension and taking the place of Jack Cole on the bench.

Rugby League Odds

Dragons boss Young, however, has a number of changes in a squad which has shipped 106 points in the interim coach’s first two games in charge.

Kyle Flanagan is back at scrum-half due to a finger issue for young Kane Reed, while Mat Feagai and Jacob Halangahu also miss out.

In comes Moses Suli in the centres, with Tyrell Sloan dropping to the bench. Dan Atkinson returns at six, so Lyhkan King-Togia is among the subs.

Handicap 3-way Alternative 2: Panthers -32 @ 6/4

There’s a temptation to go looking for the biggest margins possible, with Betfred quoting 9/4 about the Panthers overcoming a 36-point handicap in Alternative 4 of the 3-way Handicap markets.

I think the 6/4 offered for a 32-point difference is just conservative enough while also seeking value.

The Panthers have been brilliant this season. Prolific at times, warrior-like at others, they are the sport’s outstanding club team right now.

On the other side of the field we have the Dragons, who have simply been at the far end of the scale thus far.

They have only twice managed to keep the losing margin to single figures in nine attempts to date, and any opponent with anything approaching aspirations have taken them to the cleaners.

That should happen again on Sunday in Brisbane.

Blaize Talagi Anytime Tryscorer @ 5/4

You can almost take your pick in the Anytime Tryscorer market. With 25 tries between them, bets on Jenkins and Dylan Edwards should be safe enough but low on value, while Brian To’o’s six to this point make his 2/5 another cautious pick.

I’m looking for a bit more bang for the buck, so Blaize Talagi looks good to me. His five tries this season include three in the last two matches, and up against the Dragons he’s facing about the most welcoming opposition he could hope to see.

The 5/4 price implies a 44.4% probability which massively underestimates the tricky stand-off in my eyes.
