The Penrith Panthers are rallying, and that can’t be good news for the rest of the NRL Premiership. Having won just three of their first 11 games in 2025, the four-time defending champions are on a three-game winning streak and look to be regaining some of their poise of old.

Their unbeaten run faces a real test on Thursday though, as they take on the league-leading Canterbury Bulldogs at CommBank Stadium (19:50 local, 10:50 BST). Below you will find my Panthers vs Bulldogs predictions, complete with latest team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Panthers vs Bulldogs Odds

Despite Penrith’s upturn in form, it is the pace-setting Bulldogs who have the favour of the traders at Betfred.

Canterbury are the 8/11 favourites to win the game in 80 minutes, with the champs available at 6/5. It’s 18/1 against the draw.

The regular two-way handicap market has the Panthers receiving the benefit of a 1.5-point edge in return for a price of 20/21. The Doggies are 5/6 in that scenario.

Team News

There are a host of returnees for both sides after Origin duty punctured the two clubs’ plans in their previous fixtures.

Isaah Yeo, Dylan Edwards, Nathan Cleary, Liam Martin and Brian To’o a named in the Panthers’ 19-player squad after missing out last week, with Daine Laurie, Jack Cole, Scott Sorensen and Trent Toelau stepping down from the side which beat the Warriors 28-18 last week.

Off the back of a bye week, the Bulldogs make a heap of changes from the round 15 selection which edged out the Rabbitohs ahead of game two.

Stephen Crichton, Matt Burton, Max King, Kurt Mann and Jethro Rinakama all come back into the picture following New South Wales duty, with Blake Taaffe, Blake Wilson, Jake Turpin and Lipoi Hopoi making way.

Rinakama and Kurtis Morrin are the listed reserves, making them the two most likely to miss out on the final 17-player matchday squad.

Rugby League Odds

Bulldogs by 1-12 @ 21/10

As someone who follows the Doggies, this makes me a little uncomfortable. I don’t think I’ve approached a Bulldogs clash against the Panthers believing they’ll win since around 2014.

It doesn’t help that Penrith have found some form of late, so much so that they are right back in the top-eight picture and probably a favourite for a home elimination round fixture at the very least.

I even had reservations over them heading into last week’s win over the Warriors as their previous two defeats had come against the Eels and Tigers, two of the three worst teams in the comp.

But this is where the Bulldogs’ superiority comes in. They have lost just two games all season and look something close to the real deal just now. While it would be a natural reaction to expect the Dogs to fall away at any moment now (a pessimist is never disappointed, and all that), the truth is that just doesn’t appear likely.

So while I don’t think they’ll have it all their own way at the CommBank, I can’t see the Dogs not winning this one. This isn’t the Bulldogs side of Des Hasler’s era, when they could misfire in attack at times even when they were very good.

What Cameron Ciraldo has built is a really effective attacking machine, and I reckon that they’ll have enough in them to ride periods of pressure before making their quality count at the other end.

The 21/10 available for a win within the two-score barrier looks good to me, with its implied probability of 32.3%.

Were this not Ciraldo’s Bulldogs, I’d be right behind an ‘under’ bet here. But what the former Panthers assistant coach has fostered at Belmore is a fantastic attacking structure, and I can see points being scored in this one due to the ball-handling ability on display on both sides of the ledger.

Over 48.5 has landed in five of the Bulldogs’ 13 games to date (38.5%) compared to the implied probability of 37% on the 17/10 odds here, and the same can be said of the Panthers’ 14 appearances so far (35.7%).

So statistically, the price looks pretty well set. But given some of the names on show and the quality of the attacks, I’m pretty confident that the ‘over’ comes in.
