Fresh from a stunning win over Leeds that cost the Rhinos boss Rohan Smith his job, on Saturday Hull FC host a Warrington Wolves side who started the season like a train under new head coach Sam Burgess but now haven’t won in a month (Kick-off 15:00 BST, live on Sky Sports Arena).

The Wolves will be well-backed for a return to winning ways however, with only London Broncos below Hull in the Betfred Super League table. Here are my Hull FC vs Warrington Wolves predictions...

Hull FC vs Warrington Wolves Tips

  • Warrington Wolves -12 @ 7/5
  • Josh Thewlis anytime tryscorer @ 10/11

Hull FC vs Warrington Wolves Odds

Despite their win last week you can still get 23/10 on the Black and Whites winning this one. Warrington are the 4/11 favourites for the contest, while the draw in 80 minutes is priced at 20/1. There's a Price Boost available from Betfred, which means you can get 10/11 on Hull FC to win either half, boosted from 8/11.

Team News

Warrington welcome back goal-kicking winger Josh Thewlis after a pectoral injury kept him out of last week’s home defeat by Salford Red Devils.

There is concern though over England captain George Williams, who was also ruled out of the Salford game with a calf injury. He is expected to be named in the international squad for next weekend’s Test match against France, but is still a doubt for his club this weekend.

Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Jordy Crowther also missed out last week after picking up injuries in the Challenge Cup final. Fitzgibbon has a back injury, Crowther an ankle problem, and both men are set to be missing again.

Burgess reported no new injuries from last week’s game.

Hull meanwhile will hope to build on the feel-good factor of that surprise home win over Leeds. Interim boss Simon Grix makes two changes to his squad, with Australian forward Jed Cartwright in line for a potential debut having arrived in the UK last week. Will Gardiner is the other new face to come in, with veteran hooker Danny Houghton and former Leeds full-back Jack Walker the two to drop out.

Loan pair Tiaki Chan and Ben Reynolds are also included, as are Tom Briscoe and Yusuf Aydin, while Carlos Tuimavave is expected to continue after coming through his comeback match last week unscathed.

Handicap 3-way Alternative 1: Warrington Wolves -12 @ 7/5

Hull FC produced one of their best performances of the season – albeit without much competition – last week, and surprised many, including this writer who backed the Rhinos for the win. That will have done the Black and Whites a lot of good and they will be fired up to make it two wins from two this week against a Wolves side who have lost that winning feeling.

But this is far too good a Warrington side to go the whole of June without a win and I feel pretty confident that this one will be an away win. This is the third meeting of the year between these two sides, with Warrington winning their previous clashes by 26 and 18 points respectively.

I would imagine we will be in the same ballpark here, and the shrewd punt to me feels like the -12 handicap at 7/5 (a 41.7% probability). That allows for both Hull’s recent improvement and Warrington’s overall dominance in this fixture, and I expect Burgess and Co. to snap out of their recent downturn in form.

Warrington -12 @ 7/5

Josh Thewlis anytime tryscorer @ 10/11

Captain George Williams was my bet last week but he failed a fitness test during the week and may not even be fit enough to return for this one. But with Thewlis back in the mix, the Wire have a reliable points machine out wide, and even though there isn’t huge value in him this week, I would still be comfortable backing the youngster at 10/11 for an anytime try to add to the eight he has run in already in this year’s competition.

Josh Thewlis anytime tryscorer @ 10/11
